Ricky is one of the co-founders and residents of the well loved Spaced party series, as well as London In Transmission, the label he runs alongside Christian AB.

Butter Side Up's sixth EP comes from Stockholm's super slick Basement Space, who serves up four tracks of spacey, tripped-out house and breaks.

Patrik Edenhall is an audio engineer and producer with a love of old school broken beats. In his hands, those beats are worked into everything from jazz to techno, with deft ambient melodies and complex IDM patterns. His meticulous approach shines through once again on these four more timeless tracks.

BSU006 is another innovative EP of multi-faceted club tracks from a fresh underground talent.

For number 62, we're happy to welcome Swiss record collector and Folklor resident, O’Hana to the series. We met Adrien on a recent trip to Lausanne for Legram, a party in which he is closely affiliated with. He played the warm up on the night and we were instantly glued to the floor with his selection of classy records and slick mixing, all played with a big smile on his face. That’s what it’s all about. 

Fast forward a few months and we’re chuffed to have a mix from the man himself - we hope you enjoy the selections as much as we do!

Number 63 of our series comes from our homie and podcast maestro KRN, this time with something a bit different. The mix is a special blend of drum n bass, both old and new, a genre that we all grew up on and still share a huge love for.

For episode 65, we welcome a special mix from the incredibly talented young Italian DJ and producer, And.rea. He joins our series with his first podcast in over 2 years !

We've been fans of Andrea since his debut EP with Melliflow back in 2016. Since then he's released with the likes of Lowmoneymusiclove, Yay Recordings and most recently Joe Delon's Welt Discos, which was on regular rotation for us when it came out. 

As always, you can expect a high class blend of house, broken beat, electro, breaks and all the good stuff in-between. Sit back and enjoy :)

Hot on the heels of the Sweely album comes a new EP on Butter Side Up from Velvet Velour. The silky four tracker comes in early December with artwork by Sophie Douala.

Velvet Velour is based in Portugal and has made a quick impression in the last two years with music on Welt Discos, Nuances De Suit and Small Hours. His signature sound is a vibrant fusion of catchy hooks and characterful basslines that fuse UKG, breakbeat and house into something fresh. That is the case again here with a mouthwatering mix of stylish, club-ready sounds.

This is sophisticated house music with a truly seductive sense of late-night charm.

Butter Side Up Records has put together a first-ever remix EP which is due to land in March 2024. It finds Gene On Earth, Garrett David, Huerta, and Driss Bennis aka OCB all adding their own spin to the still standout originals from the album Sweely released here in 2022, and it comes with original artwork from Max Binski.

Active in the scene for well over 10 years, Enrica has dedicated herself to making tunes and digging deep, comfortably walking the paths between techno, electro, house and experimental. Whether on her own, or as part of the formidable duo ERIS (alongside Dea Dvornik), the ethos remains the same.

Manchester’s Goutham takes the reins for podcast number 71. A rising selector, he first marked himself with us as one to watch with excellent podcasts for Pager & then later Outsiders.

Strap in for 70-minutes of deep, groovy and expertly dug house, the perfect accompaniment to the summer sun. A big thanks to Goutham for the peachy mix.

Butter Side Up’s 12th release, Weekend at Raymond’s Place’ comes from San Diego’s hotly tipped John Manhard. A densely textured and unpredictable six-track EP whose languid groove and swing will sound equally sweet warming up a dancefloor or late into the following day. 

Based in LA and resident of cult party V:isions, John’s been on a roll of late, with releases on the likes of Mui Mui, Perfect Timings & InTheBagg (alongside Dylan Payne) cementing him as a singular producer with an impressively broad reference board. 

The EP’s first track, ‘Shake Your Body’ immediately gets under the skin, a bouncy groove and synth-line pulling you under its command. Over the next 30-odd minutes the spell doesn’t lift - deep house tropes twist and turn playfully over shuffling breaks and swinging basslines, reminiscent of West-Coast house’s finer moments. Manhard’s studio-craft and ear for the unpredictable give a fresh perspective to a much revered and distinctively Pacific-coast sound.

This is music for the fuzzy margins either side of peak time. It’s fitting that Hamish first met and heard John’s music at a hazy afters in LA back in 2022, drawn to a selection of tracks which were largely his own. Two years later these ideas have refined to form another stellar release on BSU, complete with original artwork from Max Binski and scheduled for release in early Ocober.

It’s been a while since we’ve had some prime listening material to share with you all so we thought we best get back in to the swing of things for 2017.

For our next episode we’ve invited along one of our bestest pals in the form of Dog Eat Dog co-founder Toby Nicholas. We’ve known Toby for many, many moons and his selection is always of an impeccable standard as he consistently keeps his ear firmly to the ground for those treasured gems, both old and new. This is why he’s always on the money taking care of bookings at one of our fave haunts in London, The Pickle Factory. 

This particular mix was recorded live on his home turf warming up for past BSU guest Sonja Moonear towards the end of last year.

September 2018 will see the launch of Butter Side Up Records with a 12” that embodies the considered club sound of the much loved Leeds and London party. 

It comes from fast rising artist Christian Jay with a remix from The Brane owner Youandewan and offers four cuts of slick electronic house music complete with artwork by Sophie Doulala.
