Inspired by the daily bus rides of myself and millions alike. I spent this past year riding the bus to and from campus at the University of Michigan, plotting on what I was going to make on my SPs when I got home. In my morning commute, I'd listen back to what I had created the night before. This tape is the result of some of my favorites made during this time.

The cover depicts the inside of a real U of M bus taken by yours truly. The back cover is me at a stop.

On a more subtle note, "Commuter" shines light on the interactions and atmospheres of public transit that wouldn't otherwise be experienced in a personal vehicle. Public transit promotes community and interaction outside of your anticipated day.

Needless to say, if you want to get your day right, take these 25 minutes to get your commute right.

Trapped In (ft. Smiley) (38 Lo-Fi Remix)

My first body of cohesive work. This beat tape was produced and arranged between March and August of 2022. All beats on this tape were created with my SP-404 SX and SP-404 MK2. Many of the beats on this tape draw inspiration from J. Dilla, Nujabes, Madlib, MF DOOM, and Odd Future. Albums such as Modal Soul, Medicine Show #5, Dilla's Delights, Doomsday, and Bastard were in constant rotation in the months that the tape was being made. This tape is visually inspired by cartoons such as Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai, and Adult Swim subculture in its entirety. Though this tape was created in only a few short months, this tape symbolizes nearly 5 years of finding my own sound and inspirational base. Listen to this tape in a place and time of day that you feel happiest. A special thanks to Joe, Julian, Trent, Dean, and Allison.

This album is intended to be listened to in the snow or by the fire with the ones you love. Feel the warmth of Lo-Fi Hip Hop paired with the timeless chords and melodies from classic Christmas tunes! In this album one will find snippets from their most beloved Christmas films that evoke all of the feelings and memories that we associate with the Holiday Season. Notably, "Christmas Beagle" is a tribute to out family dog; Daisy, whom we all love so much. This album may also be listened to by the Christmas tree and presents; preferably with a glass of eggnog in hand. With that being said I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Mr. butterbeets :)

This project was inspired by my time at university 
during a program called Semester in Detroit. 
The program enlightened me to the philosophies
of James and Grace Lee Boggs; two great thinkers
and activists that spent the majority of their lives 
in Detroit and who's living room is depicted on the cover. 
Their words and ideas pushed me to think 
further into how we as individuals contrib-
ute to change and revolution.

This album contains samples of not only the words 
of Grace, but of Vincent Harding, Myrtle Thompson
- Curtis, and Rich Feldman, who are legendary 
community members in their own respects. Along
with this, all samples are from Detroit based artists
such as Alice Coletrane, The Temptations,
The Dramatics, Jimmy Ruffin, and Martha & The 
Vandellas. The only outlying sample would be
“One Day We Will All Be Free” by Donny Hathaway,
which is intended to pay homage to a professor
that helped inspire the project.

The word nevastatic actually carries no meaning 
in the english dictionary. Coined by BUTR;
to be ‘nevastatic’ means to never remain the same.
It’s important to remember that we must always 
be changing in order to grow. To remain the same
means to close one’s mind. To close one’s mind
means to never learn again. 

With that being said, there is much we can learn 
from not only the lives of James and Grace Lee-
Boggs, but from all of the current efforts to make 
change in our communities. Walk with your eyes
and ears open always. Never stop asking questions.
