Animix is back! I'm sooooo happy to be returning to the series with this new mix by local talent Hannah D (@hld). Brisbane's finest import, and curator of @thespacebetweenus, has recently taken the Melbourne scene by storm with her fun, groovy style & flawless skill. This mix is total euphoria, which I think really reflects the mood of the Melbourne scene at the moment in a (sort of) post-covid world.

Although somewhat a new kid on the block when it comes to producing dance music, Maara has been shifting gears in the scene and is killing it on all fronts as of late. With a killer debut EP landing on NAFF Recordings earlier this year, followed by a recent follow-up on Daniel Rincon run record label ISLA, her productions hit the sweet spot between the ethereal ambience of hazy afterhours ecstasy and tripped-out techno leanings. Wasting no time, Maara dives deep into a propulsive assembly of proggy house delights, blissful trance grooves and hypnotic techno, as she supplies our latest mix and we catch up to hear the latest. Butter Sessions is one of those labels that can go absolutely anywhere and still make sense because theres an element that tags it down to the ears of Sleep D aka Maryos Syawish and Corey Kikos. The two label heads behind the absolutely iconic institution straight outta Melbourne, Australia have worked with aritsts like Roza Terenzi, D.Tiffany, Tornado Wallace, Yuzo Iwata and more creating a platform for upcoming and solidly established artists to broaden their sound and explore into the unknown. Like the artists they represent Sleep D as DJ's and producers have touched all sides of the club and eclectic spectrum having dropped many anthem filled 12's(including a very solid LP on Anthony Naples' Incienso) as well as experimental outings on labels like Play On Records. 
For Off The Record #37 Syawish and Kikos have dropped us straight into the elements of the main room. A smoke machine filled warehouse of house, techno, bass and percussive club rolling excursions. Strap yourself in(or don't?).

A message from Sleep D:

This mix is a live excerpt from one of the last parties we played before covid turned everything upside down. Two hours cut from an 8 hour set at Colour in Melbourne. After all these months, and finally listening back, we felt like it captures the essence of our DJ style quite well and took us back to those fun moments on the dance floor, feeding off the dancers energy. We hope you find some joy in it and we look forward to joining you all on the dance floor when it's safe to do so in 2021 :-)
