"Fire & Smoke" is based on the story of the small plane crash in the Amazon jungle in Columbia. The plane was carrying a small family (a mother and her four children) and a pilot. The pilot was killed upon impact, but the mother and children somehow survived. However, the mother was gravely injured and would eventually pass as she and her children were waiting for rescue. Just before she died, she sent the four children (ages 1-13) away, giving them final instructions on how to survive without her. Meanwhile, a massive rescue mission began that captured the hearts of the nation, as they searched for the survivors through the dense and oppressive rainforest. Miraculously, 40 days after the crash, the children were rescued from the midst of the jungle in relatively good health. The Colombian President proudly exclaimed to a news agency after the rescue that the kids lived like "children of the jungle." When we heard this story, we were floored. How did they survive such an ordeal? What must that have been like to lose their mother and carry on, caring for one another? So, we wrote "Fire & Smoke" from the perspective of the “jungle children,” highlighting the power of the human spirit, the unshakeable bonds of family, and the sacrificial love of a mother.

By Light We Loom, a husband and wife indie-pop duo out of Cleveland, Ohio, combines creative beats, vintage synths, soaring vocals, and intimate harmonies with story-folk songwriting sensibilities to deliver high-energy performances that promise to move your heart and feet in equal measures.

Since it’s origin in late 2014, By Light We Loom has toured heavily with highlight stops at MidPoint Music Festival, Brite Winter Festival, NEO Cycle Music Festival, The Heights Music Hop, and opening for notable indie acts: The Paper Kites, Car Seat Headrest, Maps & Atlases, Telekinesis, Lucy Dakus,  Sondre Lerche, Deep Sea Diver, The Mynabirds, Twin Forks, The Kin, Kopecky, Radiation City, Matt Pond PA, Frontier Ruckus, and more.

By Light We Loom released their debut EP, “The Ignition,” in May of 2015 to critical acclaim and local radio play.  Maturing their sound through live performances, they quickly released a more realized EP, “Caught in the Tide,” in January of 2016. “Caught in the Tide”  which landed in the Top 100 of the College Radio Charts and resulted in By Light We Loom being named Cleveland Magazine’s “Best Indie Rock Artist of 2016”. Songs from “Caught in the Tide” were also featured in episodes of PBS’s “Roadtrip Nation” in 2017 and 2018.  By Light We Loom followed up this success with the 2018 release of "Canopy," two songs featured on the film "Enormity of Life."  By Light We Loom has just released their new single "Fire & Smoke" in January 2024.
