Byron Yeates has his fingerprints all over Berlin’s musical landscape. He’s the Irish wunderkind behind Radiant Love, an event series, label and collective with a loyal following that encourages free-thinking, self-expression and musical exploration in all its forms. He’s also resident at recently launched La Noche at OHM (Tresor’s ‘klein aber fein’ little brother) and community radio station Refuge Worldwide. The German capital’s oft-referenced hybrid of queer politics and music is the driving force here, and Yeates really puts his money where his mouth is. His marathon sets and bouncy, high-energy sounds run the gamut from trance to more beat-focused house and have landed him squarely behind the decks at covetable haunts like Panorama Bar, Fold London and Shelter Amsterdam. As a brief interlude from his growing number of bookings, Byron’s put together a sumptuous mix for Bassiani Podcast 164. This one’s sharp-witted and quick as a flash, rebellious breakbeats, carefree melodies and layered layered wizardry from the Radiant Records label-boss.

We are incredibly excited to have the amazing Byron Yeates as the 45th mix in our series! 

Byron is a DJ that really needs no introduction. As head of Radiant Records, based in Berlin, Yeates has served his signature sound at Club SMUT, Bassiani, Club Raum, Nowadays and Fold, amongst others. As well as heading up La Noche alongside S-CANDALO (sibling duo THC and DHC), Yeates also holds a bimonthly residency at Berlin's Refuge Radio. 

Yeates' sets, which have been known to span over 8 hours, bounce, tease, punch and often soar. They are inflected with an attitude that can at once be incredibly playful and theatrically sincere, a duality that animates the queer lineage of electronic dance music in which Yeates places himself. The femme vocal is mixed into thumping progressive trance, which in turn meets a throwback house track, or swerves down to the nod of downtempo. What remains consistent through Yeates' selections is a heady depth, keen and delicate melodies, and a forcefulness that never lets surprise step off the dancefloor.

Byron Yeates co-runs one of the best underground nights in Berlin right now. Alongside friends Amelia Forrest and Jochem Van Bruggen they put on Radiant Love, a forward-thinking queer party, of which they are a resident too. Their ethos is built on celebrating inclusivity with a focus on contemporary performance art and drag, and after only one year of parties they've built a loyal and loving family around them. What's so special about Radiant Love is the energy and passion the three of them put into each night, you can literally feel it... 

After catching Byron in action at their December party we knew we had to lock them in for a mix; they have a distinct sound that traverses through rolling trance, acid and rave, at times euphoric, but always with palpable depth.
