URGENT: Casa T Fundraising Campaign

Casa T is going through changes. Our current house has become unsustainable, forcing us to close doors. We are launching this campaign to cover upcoming expenses and debt until December 2024. A Mutual Aid Fund is being created to support our community (food, housing, health emergencies) until we find a new house. We count on your support!

About Us: CENTER FOR TRANS CARE, SOCIALIZATION, AND AUTONOMY

Founded in August 2020, Casa T responds to the severe housing crisis, especially impacting queer immigrants/BIPOC. This project aims to house and protect trans immigrant/BIPOC lives in vulnerable conditions. Sustained by donations and benefit events, Casa T provides shelter, personal and professional development, and social autonomy to LGBTQIAP+ individuals, prioritizing trans, immigrant, and BIPOC in need.

Our Goals:

-Provide shelter, development, and autonomy to LGBTQIAP+ individuals.

-Guide assisted individuals to various services: health, social assistance, food, employment, education, training, legal support, housing.

-Create safe spaces for leisure, culture, artistic creation, interaction, and affection for residents and the community.

-Educate the community to overcome prejudice and discrimination against the LGBTQIAP+ population.

-Encourage academic and artistic research on LGBTQIAP+ topics.

Our History:

In August 2020, we launched our first campaign on GoFundMe in response to the widespread housing crisis affecting marginalized people. With support from 136 donors and over 300 shares, we reached our initial goal. Subsequent campaigns have allowed Casa T to survive, covering rent, utilities, and enabling various artistic and cultural projects, interviews, and formalizing the house as a Social Solidarity Association.

We deeply appreciate your understanding that our lives matter and for recognizing the gap between us, queer immigrants/BIPOC, and the rest of the population. Your support is crucial to continue this pioneering and necessary project in Lisbon.

ALL MY BROKEN PIECES encapsulates the visceral and psychological journeys led by DYSPHORICA while honoring their most impactful influences. Inspired by the sound-punishing, ground-shaking tones of CHLAMYDIA and Lesser Of, from Berlin's queer dark industrial techno label SUBVERTED, and later adopting the neo-bochka linear glitchy technique of NYPRA, this EP offers a rhythmic noise experience where distortion, noise, drones, and slightly off-beat kick layers pay tribute to these sonic pioneers.

Each track examines different facets of creating music, challenging conventional phrasing and looping norms. DYSPHORICA’s quest to break free from harmful human experience loops led to the deconstruction of track structures, incorporating organic elements that birthed the new project - sero. This project sees sound as a means to connect to the environment, visualize surroundings, and narrate present experiences.

Despite its metallic harshness, ALL MY BROKEN PIECES aspires to be an embrace, energizing listeners through its amalgamation of survival challenges and lived experiences.

DYSPHORICA x sero - YOUR LIGHT IN MY DARKNESS

From a need to break free from traditional clubbing practices, DYSPHORICA (mostly she/her) brings her very much needed screaming ability, to a passionate selection of tracks, where noise, distortion, raw kicks, relentless hitting drums and ear-bleeding sounds come together, under what can still be considered industrial techno. 

As a storyteller DJ, DYSPHORICA crafts nostalgia-inducing tales that follow the highs and lows of being in eternal battles with an idea of self. Through a transgressive and genre-defiant approach, her expression is driven by a never-ending search for meaning and new ways of feeling, both emotionally and physically.

Each performance feeds from itself, working as a cathartic act, and space for learning and research.

MAJESTATICA

Dear all, 

For the DEMONICA episode of my latest 'new mixes series', I must first say that I'm above all thankful for all the opportunities I have been given as a creative person within certain dance music scenes and communities all over the world. 
Then, I can now say something that is weird but I must let out of my chest which is: all the recognition that my work brought me is just a matter of empathising, connecting and feeling accomplished by my capacity of doing it at times, and the love you get, sometimes! The actual accomplishment would be always surviving that day.

I was also most of the times sleep deprived, sad, in rage, when I was working on my most successful mixes or productions and if I "prayed to my hopes" too hard they would eventually become featured in the catalog of a label I loved or appreciated by a digital crowd. Well...this is trick as it sounds I don't recognise the appreciation - but what is appreciation if I wasn't very appreciative of my work myself? I'm not devaluing the power of making our dreams happening by having recognition but one thing I know about my work and emotional life for sure is that I don't like navigating these experiences this way and sitting down producing or working because my break has been too long.

Throughout these weird times and lack of emotional and home stability I had to sell a lot of my gear that was allowing me to produce the way I like, which either I get again or challenge myself to new ways of working, and I'm doing the last option. Am I also exhausting myself because I want more work produced, more recognition, more projects out? No. And I'm finally working a regular job at the same time.

There's no idea of success if you don't touch someone's heart with your artwork and from bringing a certain energy to the table - I may have failed here but I also know I have had the chance to pay many homages during almost 6 years of thinking of making 'something musical' and never forgetting any of the sound houses I passed by. I'm also done with this idea of making music or DJing that sits on a daily routine. As I have a pretty normal life and can only mix with my tablet's bluetooth mouse I brought to you a very DEMONICAL  set to give a bit of the old energy but with a new, totally imperfect, not so conscious button clicking approach - 0 mixer.

Enjoy the noisy ride! :) At the end, what is feeding the ego? tThe most a blurred idea of consistency, or dropping everything to do what the body and mind align with and allow?

DEMONICA

When ZAYA (@roadtozaya) invited me to do the sound work for one of the chapters of her performance AS LAVADEIRAS | WHYTE SHEETS, I initially felt nervous because the world of music production and sound design is still very new to me. But I quickly realized that this would be a very special learning experience. We aligned on the idea that this was going to be a dark atmosphere, an industrial ambient tale.

AS LAVADEIRAS not only reflects the care of the women who worked with water, fabrics, and the sheets we lie on—allowing for our renewal—but this time, it also tells the story of Valentim De Barros. He was an immigrant dancer who lived his homosexuality and trans identity at a time when we were light-years away from its decriminalization or recognition. In Nazi Germany, he was expelled shortly before World War II, performed in Spain and at Lisbon’s Teatro Éden, and was subjected to life in a cell, ultimately spending 50 years in a psychiatric hospital.

His story triggers in me the deep reality of what it means to resist under the scrutiny of queer issues, intertwined with fundamental mental health rights.

Imagining Zaya invoking Valentim and the washerwomen in her performance—happening in broad daylight so that their symbioses could be taught, their dances preserved, and their memory work safeguarded—is what led me to this creation.

This set also includes original sounds from Restive Plaggona (ID: Someone Different), CVNSUMED (ID: OP4), and Michel Giacometti, an ethnomusicologist who worked in Portugal from the early 1960s.

SENSORY DISPLAY

Rose Sousa (he/she/they) a.k.a ROSES born in Porto in January 1998, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work thrives at the intersections of music, visual art, and performance.

Their creative journey began in London, inspired by HTBX, KAOS and INFERNO, where he had their first years as raver. These experiences ignited her passion for music as a vehicle for storytelling and experimentation.

With a huge passion for an idea of clubbing, while learning to navigate them for almost 10 years so far, Rose started creating soundscapes of edging rhythms, noise, sounds allusive to screams and impressions of chants, and movie-like sounds through layering and looping, using their sets as a platform for voicing anything that in normal social contexts becomes harder for them. Their immersive sound challenges conventional structures, focusing on narrative, innovation, cathartic intent and aims finally to provide a transformative and self-questioning journey for listeners, taking them to distinct dreamful environments. Driven by emotion, where instinct also ends up playing a part on how she touches the knobs, or reverbs a sound, ROSES' performances and sound pieces are structured by and put emotion in first place. 

In Lisbon, Rose cultivated an archival music practice designed to evoke different feelings of tension and to foster learning along with the crowd. They performed at venues like Ministerium Club, NADA, NAV, and Prisma, using various aliases to explore diverse styles. Under their alter-drag-act DYSPHORICA, they embraced dark, raw industrial techno and in collaboration with Asterisco Colectivo, through live performance and SUBVERTED through podcast, both queer led platforms, Rose’s paths have been opened significantly in terms of her creative development.

The development of alter-acts through Rose’s expression is fundamental as they follow her own transition journey and allow the creative process to stay at constant learning levels, being this matter a very important and somewhat performative aspect of their work nurturing a hopefully never-ending kindness towards the music practice.

For many years Rose also worked as a photographer, as a fashion and creative direction assistant, being the visuality allowed by music a crucial aspect to keep her productive flow growing.
