Playground Records' 58th release comes from one of the most active members of the family, the talented Italian A-Tweed who brings us his first mini-LP titled 'Rave the Cave'. A dark, acid and thick work, loaded with psychedelia, experimentation and groove. We invite you to delve into this cave of weird sounds and infectious dance.

A pulsating heartbeat through the ancient stone walls, a symphony of beats reverberating through the darkness. The cave becomes a sanctuary, a primal refuge where the vibrations of music mingle with the whispers of time. Where the echoes of the past meet the rhythms of the present in a timeless dance of existence.

After taking a break in 2023, Velax returned strongly at the beginning of this year, as demonstrated in his release with Local Suicide on Iptamenos Discos. After releasing the banger “Keep It Strong” one year ago, Patricio Diaz is back with his very first release.

The eponym track “Nights Lights” is a pure track mixing Trance and Italo influences.
An ode to gathering and smiling on the dancefloor.

“Walking At Dawn”, always with a trance touch, a little faster, is the perfect track to let you go. By the way, the track groove seems straight out of a 80s road movie.
 
ROTCIV signs here a mental, dark, almost disturbing remix.
But faithful to its origins, he brings an undeniable disco side too.
A transcendental music for the robots !

To close the strong release, Theo Scuera brings to “Night Lights” a more progressive 90s touch. Music to be experienced only by tapping your feet loudly and jumping on the dancefloor.

Fabio Kstro - Open Market

Meet Stipa – a moniker and a concept, created by Ukrainian musician Daria Maksymova. Daria has been around in music production for many years – though focusing on darker sound. However, when life itself became too dark, with the ongoing full-scale invasion to Ukraine happening, it was time to turn around and capture the opposite mood. 

That’s how Stipa was created, and that’s why the EP sounds the way it does. The creative process was always for Daria a coping mechanism: a way to escape reality and find a better place. Naturally, this way it’s possible to capture the moment, the feeling, a place, a certain experience forever and share it with those in need – like people of Ukraine, who struggle to find an escape from everyday wearies of war.

The EP is three original tracks toying with funk, disco and house genres, where Stipa showcasing her excellent producer’s skills and unique vision of melodies and song structures. The EP feels like a child of sun and summer and designed for recreating purposes – or for DJs summer sets on cozy patios while there’s a sunset in the background. To extend the pleasure, we invited two Ukrainian producers – Kadiristy & Rustam to make sure there’s a remix to anyone’s taste: from smooth deep house to groovy electro funk.

Daria shares more about the creation process: “I need a Ukrainian soundscape that makes me feel good. Listening to the world heritage of great disco and funky music is a pleasure, but it feels like visiting a friend's house. I wanted to build the room of my dreams at home – an imaginary soundscape where Mariia Prymachenko’s weird creatures could dance without feeling like foreigners.
My favourite part of parties has always been the morning. When the sun rises, glitter shines on smiling faces, and a sense of belonging and acceptance fills the air. It’s a fleeting moment of unconditional love, something so rare in life. 
I named this EP “Unconditional Love” as a reminder to myself and others to love the people around us while we are together – Любіть живих”.

Daria’s track was the one to open the label's first ever release. Now the exciting appearance of Stipa among other Regulardisco releases adds variety to Ukrainian music to be showcased here among upcoming years.

JUNO REVIEW: Fresh from delivering a suitably intoxicating chunk of feverish tribal techno on their own Belly Dance Services stable, Hanzo & Yaman bring their trademark brand of percussive dance music to Tom Tom Disco. Title track "Tropicalas" is notably different to its predecessor, with the pair layering up wonky chants and South American style percussion over a looped synth bassline. It's hugely endearing and celebratory all told, and comes backed with two bonus cuts: the hypnotic ethno-techno throb of "Titaporn" and the quirky nu-disco/percussive house bounce of "Hola Hola". Of the trio of accompamying remixes, we're particularly enjoying the loose, acid-flecked breakbeat shuffle of Lily Haz's rework of "Titaporn" and Tony Disco's exotic, Middle Eastern disco revision of "Tropicala".

03 Hanzo & Yaman - Hola Hola

Phil Peskett and Jamie Tolley aka Blavatsky & Tolley are about to release their first track on their record label – the track is River Inside, the label is Evil Plans records. The release date is 9 October, presale on 18 September 2020. 

This is not an ordinary artist collaboration, these guys have history – as close as brothers.

Jamie was first introduced to Phil in the early 90s, at the time Jamie held a residency at Club UK and Phil was firmly placed on the band circuit, but it was electronic music that brought them together. Via a group of mutual friends, Jamie first encountered Phil in a South East London loft studio, this was Phil’s loft and the start of a beautiful friendship. According to Jamie, Phil was a ‘larger than life’ character and the pair instantly bonded. Hanging out and enjoying music together became a regular pastime. Jamie loved Phil’s style, but at the time they were experimenting with sound and did not even think to release anything.

Fast forward three decades, and Blavatsky & Tolley are on it. Phil’s blues/rock band have separated, Jamie’s weekly electronic music radio show is established with a regular following and the time is right – everything happens for a reason. Phil got back the taste for electronic music, he always loved what Jamie played on the show and became inspired to collaborate and create with him. Over the New Year from 2019/2020 the guys spent nearly three days straight in the studio, the music flowed and River Inside was born. 

In terms of what the tracks means to him, in Jamie’s own words – ‘River Inside, it’s a journey … a twister of a tune. I’m a river inside, that’s how you feel when you’re on the dancefloor where nothing else matters as the music runs through you. It’s a great feeling and that is a river inside you.’ 

Phil’s musical background as a vocalist and harmonicist combined with Jamie’s nous for electronic music and exposure to constantly new material from showcasing international artists on a weekly basis makes for creative brilliance – Blavatsky & Tolley.

The initial plan for the label Evil Plans records was to debut and release Blavatsky & Tolley’s music, but knowing these guys this is just the beginning of something truly mind-blowing, and much bigger than that. River Inside comes with two fantastic remixes by Al Mackenzie’s Retroforward and BTCOP, two completely different takes and equally as breath-taking as the original. Rich Lane from Cotton Bud did a superb job on the mastering of all three – a great collaborative effort on this super EP. This has been a long time coming, watch this space …
