Disquiet Junto Project 0592: Better Than One
The Assignment: Record the second third of an asynchronous trio.

Please note: While this is the second part of a three-part project, you can participate in one, two, or all three of the parts, which will occur over the course of three consecutive weeks.

Step 1: This week’s Disquiet Junto project is the second in a sequence intended to encourage and reward asynchronous collaboration. This week you’ll be adding music to a pre-existing track, which you will source from the previous week’s Junto project (disquiet.com/0592 14). Note that you aren’t creating a duet — you’re creating the second third of what will eventually be a trio. Important: Leave space for what is yet to come.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music, on any instrumentation of your choice, as a complement to a pre-existing track. First, however, you must select the piece of music to which you will be adding your own music. There are tracks by numerous musicians to choose from. The majority are in this playlist:

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly the length of the piece of music you selected in Step 2. Your track should complement the piece from Step 2, and leave room for an eventual third piece of music. When composing and recording your part, don’t alter the original piece of music at all, except to pan the original fully to the left if it hasn’t been panned left already. In your finished audio track, your new part should be panned fully to the right.

A second entry for this week's Disquiet Junto, this one using Fake Genius's lovely Neapolitan sketch "Quietude" as the seed. I added guitar (roughly) thinking about the kind of thing Johnny Marr does on Pet Shop Boys tracks. Very curious to see if anyone picks this up to complete ... not really that many pop songs around the Junto? Fake Genius's description: "some street sounds and kids playing soccer (and calling each other names). On top there is a simple DX7 pad with a progression in Gm, with a sparse beat (no kick, no snare) at a 130 BPM."

This week's #disquietjunto prompt was to record the second third of an asynchronous trio.

I fired up a random number generator on Friday, and the number it returned was 1, so I downloaded Andreas Kitzmann's beautiful and atmospheric track (https://soundcloud.com/andreas-kitzmann-27370936/disquiet0591)

I listened to it on Friday and could immediately imagine some accordion or similar reedy tones playing over it.

I wasn't able to get to work on it until Monday, so I settled for using my melodica (surely my neighbors won't mind), which I think worked pretty well. 

The first two phrases the melodica plays are melodies I heard in my head while listening to Andreas' track, and the rest imitate phrases from the source track (though sometimes repeating them starting on a different pitch for a little flavor).

Happy Andreas shared his creativity, and I look forward to hearing what part might come next!

Two Of Three (disquiet0592)

The Assignment: Record the second third of an asynchronous trio.

For this assignment I recorded https://soundcloud.com/sonic-search/eden into tracks 1 & 2 of a 4-track recorder (a Tascam Porta02), and then recorded a sequence that I programmed on the OP-Z into tracks 3 & 4, while playing with it live. I loved the organic feel of "Eden", and the rigidity of the OP-Z is a nice addition to it, IMHO.

As suggested by morgulbee I added a funky bass line using a little old pedal from Electro Harmonix called Bass Balls that I bought 15 years ago and used once and then forgot about. It stills sounds pretty weird for an autowah IMHO.
