Illicit Licks shows us CATJAM's jungle roots.  With a broody 1920s brass intro complemented with some serious jungle choppage and deep basslines on the drop, this one is sure to be on heavy rotation on gramophones across the land.

The beat-juggling dream team that called themselves Suckaside is back on BBP with another slices of timeless head-nodding goodness &ndash; so funky we had to call upon the Kurnel MC to lay on some dope bars and BadboE for remixing duties.
Suckaside aka Sucka Timmy and Dj B-Side has polished off an old classic soul diamond and paired it with and classic funky beat and some smooth basslines. All topped off with the Kurnel MC doing his thing while spitting hot fire on beat.
What else was there to do for the remix but to invite BBP head honcho BadboE to squeeze just a little more funk out of the equation. To do that BadboE had turned the tempo slightly up and adding a classic nu funk arrangement around the soulful elements while giving the Kurnel MC plenty of room to flow.
Both the original and BadboE remix comes in instrumental versions as well of an accapella of Kurnel MC rhymes for the DJ to mix it up&hellip;

Drunken Fist 🐉

In the misty mountain temples of the ancient provinces, there lived a forgotten master, Old Sage Kai, keeper of the Drunken Fist Riddim. Long ago, he traded discipline for divine groove, swapping sparring partners for sound systems and turning Shaolin forms into footwork funk.

They say he can’t walk straight but never misses a beat. With a flask of fermented peach wine in one hand and a cracked vinyl dubplate in the other, Kai shuffles, spins, and stumbles through the courtyard, looking like a madman, but striking with rhythm so sharp it makes dancers drop like dominoes.

His style blends broken kung fu stances with breakbeat syncopation, punctuated by slippery guzheng slides and chopped pipa plucks. Each stagger is a snare. Each sway is a sub. Behind him, a temple turned dancehall booms with ancient riddim energy, while paper lanterns sway to the groove like they’re nodding in approval.

"Drunken Fist" isn’t chaos, it’s controlled disarray, a celebration of asymmetry, groove, and sacred silliness. His mantra?

“Balance is for teapots, real style spills.”

Now, when the moon is full and the bass is heavy, locals whisper that if you skank just the right way, Master Kai might appear, wobbling through the smoke ready to show you a dancefloor technique that’s been banned for centuries.

C@ In The H@ (pronounced: Cat in the Hat), DJ & Producer who creates a fusion of early twentieth century swing and jazz, and chunky twenty-first century beats with bouncy electronic bass.  

Hailing from Birmingham UK with an innovative style called "Swing with the Big Bass Sound", his DJ sets are about mashing it up and having fun, bringing you Electro Swing & Vintage Remix with aspects of Turntablism, DnB, House, Hip Hop, Dubstep & whatever else fits into the melting pot.  

He is also Director at Ragtime Records alongside Tom ESC (Electric Swing Circus) & Duke Skellington (Vaude Villainz).  His releases have seen him getting a number of Spotify editorial playlistings (including a no.1 spot), tracks in the top 10 on Beatport, and his remix of 'Swingin' Together' has been featured on no less than 3 best of Electro Swing compilations. As well as producing music for Ragtime Records, he has also had releases on Freshly Squeezed, Pedigree Cuts, Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, Ton Liebt Klang, & Greenqueen Music.   

Since 2012, his music has secured him gigs at the most exciting UK Festivals including Boomtown, Shambala, Secret Garden Party & Glastonbury; as well as seeing him playing gigs all across Europe, and further afield including UAE & Thailand.
