We woke up from cryo sleep a few weeks back as we arrived to the Tuldorah system. Things have been slow as we adjust to being awake. It's been nice to play Go with Zaid. And Anh is fun to be around, though they sing a lot when doing their chores and it's kind of driving me nuts. Space can be hella boring at times. But today, looking at the planets of Tuldorah in the navigation pane, I felt that sense of wonder that got me into this in the first place.

The year hadn't been very fruitful. We explored yet another planet that ended up being a gas giant. But today, our radar picked up the signal of a previously unidentified rogue planet, which we have named Ortali. It seems to have lined itself up to orbit around the Tuldorah system. This behaviour is fascinating and something we agreed our expedition should research more deeply. We have set the coordinates to Ortali's proximity. While we get there, we'll continue to chart some orbital models and run scans of its surface.

We haven't seen much from Ortali yet, but we are eager to keep exploring. Its surface is unlike anything we have seen before. In appearance it is chitinous, but upon interaction it is incredibly dense and solid. We have discovered several tendril-like lifeforms that sprout from the surface. They are gelatinous, hairy, and gently ondulate. They are not hostile. We have taken some samples to analyze their composition. I can't wait to see what hides in other regions of Ortali.

I am deep into the chasm. Things seemed safe enough but I suddenly got separated from Anh and Zaid. I try to make my way back but the path seems to change every time. The life forms are becoming much denser, they seem to be reacting to my presence. I can't shake this feeling of being watched, puppeteered even. It sends shivers down my spine. I feel like Ortali... is alive."

recorded live at camp kennybrook in monticello ny from 3am to just after 7am on Kiddo's birthday to greet the sunrise and close out what turned out to be a killer night of Friday (the 13th) programming that we lovingly curated (feat. our friends and yours POSI-TRACK, Rachel Noon, and Purelink) for the debut of the new and improved Bossa Lounge at Sustain-Release Year 10 (2024).

curatorially, we imagined the room to be an affirmation of the aesthetic wonders and general badassery of LOUNGE as not only a tragically overlooked piece of the electronic music history puzzle but also a vastly under-appreciated form of rave-adjacent social practice. 

conceptually, this mix builds upon and extends the project of sonic-affective worldmaking that was initiated and established by our previous performances at S-R (years 4 & 5). regardless of genre, playing at sustain is always an opportunity to focus on cherishing the juicy site-specificity of listening to psychedelic music in nature with your friends, and the rare forms of potentiality held therein. 

this time, we chose to allow the form of the set to be organically guided by the concept of THE FOUR ELEMENTS. dynamically following the progression WATER • EARTH • FIRE • AIR the set prioritizes and performs an ethos of maximal transport, simultaneously journeying inwards, onwards, upwards, and outwards. 

we really put a lot into this one, and sincerely hope you enjoy the ride!

Fiera Verde is the sonic avatar of Mailén Loarte, born in Patagonia, Argentina. After playing bass in the transfeminist cumbia band Cáliz Marea and exploring vocal manipulation and synthesis in the experimental electronic duo Ondro, she launched her solo project in January 2020 with a performance in Villa La Angostura. Her performances are immersive experiences rather than conventional gigs, blending layered vocals, granulated and metallic charangos, beats, and atmospheric textures. She often collaborates with performers, creating multidisciplinary live shows that merge sound and movement.
In 2020, she contributed to pantanoGORGE - volcano version, a collaborative release between the Argentinian collective pantanosumpf and the Japanese label GORGE.IN. She later joined a residency at Tribu de Trueno in Bariloche and debuted in Buenos Aires under The Journey You Never Had, the label set to release her first album Junco, founded by Matt Cianfo. Since relocating to Melbourne in 2022, she continues to evolve her sound while curating events such as Rain, Not Thunder and Feed Blooms, which she produced at East Mint.

SXCL is a versatile musician from Reunion Island. Producer and disc jockey since 2017, they have been morphing their style with time to fit their eclectic taste. Going from house to progressive trance, to electro and more recently to old-school techno, their versatility brought them to play in venues like Säule, and recently at the Festival Electropicales alongside artists like Jeff Mills and Danilo Plessow. Sensitive to the intricate textures of electronic music, SXCL masterfully merges house and techno, blurring the lines that traditionally separate them. SXCL crafts their sets with meticulous care, prioritizing the audience's journey above all else. Expect a touch of melancholy floating around.
