RAPTURE

Back in 2009, I was deep in the lab chasing a sound that didn’t exist yet. I called it Hood Metal — a raw fusion of the streets and distortion, where 808s met electric guitars, and rage collided with rhythm and blues. It was the next phase after the Hood Rock era, when songs like “Party Like a Rockstar” had the world wildin’ out. But I wanted to take it even further — heavier, darker, more aggressive. Something that brought the mosh pit to the hood.

At the time, I was working with SignYaSelf Records founder HB, the executive producer behind Gucci Mane and Jeezy’s iconic record “So Icy.” That connection opened doors. Through a random opportunity on MySpace, I met Hexo, one of Gucci’s So Icy / 1017 Brick Squad artists, who was also working with Waka Flocka Flame under Mizay Management after Gucci and Hexo did a earlier record called Papered Up. 

The timing couldn’t have been better. I was in the middle of piecing together my first EP and Hex-O brought that perfect balance — raw aggression laced with that crunk energy. His gritty delivery matched my production style like lightning meeting gasoline. When we linked, “MOSH!” was the first of many dope records we collaborated on.

That record was chaos and chemistry at once. It had all the energy of a trap anthem but with the attitude of a raw, middle of a muddy metal concert vibe like Three 6 Mafia's tear the club up meets the mosh pit, this record was the one that brought the entire hood off the block to the party. 

We didn’t even know it at the time, but what we were doing was planting the seeds for what the world would later called Trap Metal.

The industry wasn’t ready for it back then — the sound was too ahead of its time — so what they couldn’t control, they cloned but we knew we had something killer. “MOSH!” was the spark. It was the evolution. And now, I’m pulling it out the crate to show the world how it all started.

Hood Metal wasn’t just a sound — it was a movement. And this was the first eruption. \m/
