This one's from 1919. From what I know, the original lyric was much longer by numerous verses but I think what we wound up with in our permanent performance arrangement had just the right amount of punch. It always did grow in live performances, as though with a mind of its own.

This is a part of a recent demo of mine from early March, 2013 - brand new and fresh off the press.

We daydreamers owe this beautiful and melancholy melody to Cy Coleman, one of the classiest tux-adorned men to touch the keys. I have heard a couple lovely renditions - notably those of Fiona Apple and Frank Sinatra - and couldn't resist taking my own shot when I fell in love with Joseph Allan McCarthy's beautiful poetry.

Written by the goddess Peggy Lee, this is "I Don't Know Enough About You". Being somewhat of a know-it-all, I couldn't resist such a saucy lyric.

Made famous by Sophie Tucker in 1909, this is "Some of These Days", a bittersweet song about a lover choking out their final goodbyes in parting: "you'll be so lonely just thinking of me only for you'll know, honey, that you've had your way."

Such a classic woman's blues and I think most beautifully told through the immortal voice of Bessie Smith - the tale of the St. Louis woman who took her man in 1914. The wide acoustics in St. James Hall created an interesting effect as well.

Caitlin Toom is a Vancouver-based musician and songwriter whose musical origins juxtapose Dixieland jazz, folk-influenced harmonies and lyrical alt-rock and soul. Caitlin has performed with a variety of different musical acts from crooning in 1930s fashion with a traditional big band orchestra to fronting a 13-piece funk and soul band. Today she plays various venues around metro Vancouver while working as a recording artist.
