Back after six weeks off the airwaves.  Internet problems, still ongoing but workable this week.
It's actually a pretty chilled mix this month.  The mix opens with lush deep vibes courtesy of Jimpster.  We build gently with jazzy vibes along the way, the odd sing along here and there.
The main part of the mix again has a UK feel, with those bumpy skippy warm beats.
I really thought I was going to run out of new music and have to blend towards the end, but it worked out almost perfectly.
Happy to report that I am involved in a few nights here in Sydney.  Open House is shaping up to be a monthly event at The Barrie, featuring South African sounds, phunky house, latin vibes and UK beats.  Larry's Herd is another new night with a focus on 90's deep house and disco sounds.  Finally there is Boogie which ended its tenure at the picturesque Ivy Pool Club.  I'm looking forward to seeing where they call home next summer.  If you're in the Sydney please come and support so that we can have cool music and nice things in our city.

This months mix comes in nice and early.  It's made up of mix of new tracks and ones I've Shazammed when out over the last few weeks.  The result is a really nice blend of the old and new.
Highlights for me include DJ Rolando's "Jaguar", Cinthie's "Mellifluous", DJ Chus's "The Feeling" and Spiritual South's "Green Gold".
I've had this mix on repeat for the last four days which is usually a good sign!

This mix is from the last show in August, but since we already have an August release out there it's more of a peak into the upcoming September mix. The beginning of the mix is like the start of the night.  A nod to those minimal deep rolling, chugging sounds you hear when you first get to the club. We then have a flurry of vocal tunes thanks to Martin Evans (Brum's finest) who was in the chat room asking for female vocals again (he asks every time, sometimes I listen :)) We then get a little chunky with some solid floor stompers. The mix ends with a couple of older tunes.  The first is from the 90's an excellent Curtis & Moore remix of Sandy B's "Make The World Go Round".  The second is from 2001 courtesy of Bob Sinclar.  I first heard this track on the excellent Ministry Sessions 12 (The Magic Sessions) - Louie Vega's mix.  Not sure why I've never played it in a mix before. AND in doing the tracklisting for this release I just realised that I played a song twice in the mix!!  See if you can spot it. My very first release!  After 30 years of playing everyone else's music I've finally made one of my own.  Feedback very welcome.

The Best Weed In Brooklyn

This is my second track.
It's based on Cathy Brown's 90's classic Can't Play Around.
The MAW mix has an amazing break in the middle.  It's not a long break but the chords are top shelf.

The beats are more afro like.

Can't Play

MAW, a name synonymous with house music of the highest quality. Comprising of "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, both of whom have a discography any producer would give both their ears for. However when the two came together in the early 90's the result was spectacular. They came on very different journeys prior to meeting. Louie was already a hugely successful and respected DJ on the NY circuit originally doing Freestyle at Chez Sensual and Devils Nest, before discovering house at Heartthrob and Studio 54. Kenny Dope on the other hand had no time for the music Louie had become infamous for playing, instead he was into the Hip-Hop scene in Brooklyn. In fact at the time the name "Masters At Work" was used by Kenny Dope and Mike Delgado for their parties. However it was one of Kennys choice cuts "Salsa House" with a little help from Todd Terry that eventually brought the duo together. "One Step Ahead" was the first release by the new Vega/Gonzalez MAW, but it was far from their last! The rest as they say is history. This mix brings you the best vocal tracks produced or remixed by the Masters, either as a team or in their own right. If that doesn't put a smile on your face we are also treated to some of the sweetest voices in the history of house with India, Michael Watford, Sara Devine, Barbara Tucker and even Luther Vandross! This is only the first of many MAW tribute mixes coming up, such is the breadth and depth and of the contribution these guys have made and continue to make to this thing we call house.

September 24 Sesh

This is my third track produced.

This is a nice short no nonsense little number.  It features two breaks.
The vocal is taken from CBounce Pres Candyflip - Keep The Faith.

Womp

Track number 4
Started this with my youngest son Dion, hence the name of the track.
He made the call with the beats and the melody, the rest was my call.
Within an hour we had the core of the track!

The main melody is from Splice, the rest was created.
The vocal is from Zone Ranger - To Be Real, an absolute beast of a track from the early 90s.

Dijon

Fifth release.  This is on a very different vibe to everything so far.
Inspiration came from a track I used to love in 1991 - 'Crunch - 50c'.
The break in the original always gave me goosebumps but ended too soon.
My main goal was to create a break that made me feel the same as I did about the original.
In the end I took the bassline, one of the key riffs and the rude bwoy vocal.

It definitely has a sinister feel to it, nothing like the stuff I usually make/play, but I want to make different styles of music so this is my first deep house foray.

Crunchy

Track 6 - a fierce little beast running round the forest.

Dirty Vibes

Track number seven.
I wanted to make an afro track next.  Came up with the fill while listening to an Osunlade mix, hearing the tribal drums.
The tune retains a very urban sound.  The vocals were an absolute find, they run with the track adding intensity.

I've played this out a couple of times now and it really lit up the dancefloor.  It creates a real energy and vibe which is great to see and hear.

London Nights

This mix is a recording from a recent event at the Civic Underground club in Sydney.
It was the gloves off set for Mark Farina who had just done a four hour harbour boat party for Mushroom Jazz earlier that evening.
I was asked if I wanted to do the closing set, and who would I wanted to go b2b with.
Two names immediately came to mind, Ritmiq, a deep and minimal house DJ who I rate highly and iLLya Cooper a well known Sydney legend.  In the end I went with iLLya, because of his long standing friendship with Mark, having played alongside him on many previous tours.
A lot of people thought I was brave and a little crazy trying to play b2b with such a skilled DJ, but I wanted to be challenged.
I had iLLya come onto my radio show a couple of days before the event to see how we could sound together.  You can check out the show here.
The atmosphere in the club was pretty special, the crowd was very knowledgable and a real mix of ages.  Mark got them fired up good and proper and before we knew it, we were up.
iLLya started our set off and played for the first 15 minutes.  We then went back and forth for the next hour and a half.  As you can hear iLLya drops acappellas and vocal hits all through the mix, scratching and chopping.  It was a wild experience but so much fun.
I dropped my latest track "London Nights" and was blown away by the response.  Everything seemed to change on the dancefloor, different people were suddenly at the front of the dancefloor in front of me and they were giving it some.  It felt amazing seeing people connect and enjoy something you have created.
I really hope to get the chance to play b2b with iLLya again.  A longer set would be magic as we were just getting into our stride.
For anyone in Sydney you can catch me at Tatler tomorrow night where I have the whole night to myself!!!  Four hour set where I can stretch my legs and play some incredible music from the last 35 years of house.
The following Saturday (21st), I am back at the Civic again for Night Safari.  I'll be picking up where I left off.
Finally, on NYE I'll be playing for Boogie at the Ivy Ballroom supporting none other than DJ Spen and Dave Lee (Joey Negro)!
It's been a great year for DJing out for me, fingers crossed that 2025 continues in the same direction.

iLLya + Richie Haynes @ Mark Farina Up Close 071224

This is my last ever radio show on Pressure Radio after almost 13 years!
It all began with me wanting to be challenged to mix live, no pre-programming which is what I had been doing with my podcast series.  The radio is challenging because there is so much more to stay on top of.  You have to maintain a presence in the chatroom, but be careful not to get sucked into conversations or the music suddenly stops!!
I reckon there are about 175+ mixes from the show so it has definitely left it's mark.

As this door closes so the next one opens and I have to give a massive props to Andy Ward for stepping up to start a new radio station which will provide shelter for all the newly homeless Pressure DJs.
I will be making a few changes for the new show.  Firstly it's moving to Tuesday at the same time (9-11pm Sydney).  Secondly it's going back to weekly just as it was for the first seven years of Pressure.  It makes it easier to remember when I'm playing compared to the old fortnightly show.
My first show will be on Jan 7th.

Inspired by a mix I heard Kenny Dope do in Sydney in 2012!
He looped the start of beautiful people over and over with "Everybody Be Somebody".
The rude bassline is courtesy of Jeremy Sylvester.
No brainer when it came to the vocal.  One of the most famous in house music.
No chance this will see the light of day on a label.  Unlikely to get clearance.  So for now, just enjoy it hear on Soundcloud.

Beautiful Persons

Last month we said goodbye to Pressure Radio after almost 13 years (Feb).
This month we make our debut on Vocal Booth Radio, a new radio station set up and run by Andy Ward.  We've moved from Thursdays fortnightly to Tuesdays weekly.  The time remains the same.

The chatroom is similar but with new updated emojis which kicked off a few Emoji wars in the chatroom.  I didn't know what to expect for my first show, would anyone be there!
I needn't have worried as there were great numbers inside the chatroom and on the outside.
We also had amazing support from Sydney.  For large parts of the show we had more people from Sydney than not from Sydney!  I even got to know new people in Sydney, not something you expect on a Spanish radio station!
Huge thank you to everyone that tuned in especially those in the chat.  There was such great energy during the show in the chatroom.  I'm looking forward to holding court in the chatroom every Tuesday.

c2eMusic January 2025 - First Ever Vocal Booth Radio Show

Week two on VBR and it's guest mix time!
Joining me on the show this week was DJ em_laa (Emma McGuigan).  As the name suggests she is in fact Irish.  Em spent her Uni years in the heart of clubland, Liverpool and Manchester through the 90's and 00's.  Now calling Sydney home for the last 2 years it's time to test the local scene and showcase her skills.
Em played alone for the first hour to maximise your exposure to her sound.  Then in the second hour we went b2b.
I was blown away by her solo set at the top of the show.  Some awesome tunes and flow built up nicely.
Looking forward to playing b2b with her this Saturday at Tatlers from 12am-close.

No you are not seeing things!
If you had told me at any point in the last 30 years that I would get to play b2b with the person that made so much of the music that I played back in 97/98 I’d have maybe peeeeeeed laughing.
 

With over 350 releases under his belt and over 950 DJ gigs around the world there is no doubt Jeremy Sylvester is one of the godfathers of UK garage.

Jeremy is a DJ who is capable of covering a vast repertoire of styles, blending them into one sound that has become synonymous and identifiable to him as a DJ. Combining a mix of deep house/garage, classic 90’s style house, deep tech and jacking with a bit of old skool 4×4 garage thrown in for good measure, Jeremy’s diversity and sheer panache is second to none.
His cool DJ sets are known for twisting the dance floor into a sexy melange of movement before letting loose into a filthy beat, Jeremy knows what the crowd want, and he knows how to give it to them.


What is crazy is that Jeremy's USB's wouldn't load, so he had to use my music!!  Any DJs out there can sympathise.  The upside though was that I had a folder full of Nice 'n' Ripe and one full of Jeremy's unreleased tracks from over the years!
So what you end up with is a rare classic UKG set from the man that produced half of it back in the day.
Perfect!

Here we go with the start of a new month and with it a new mix of fresh new sounds.  I actually ran out of new tunes, it was a well discussed topic in the chatroom as to whether I had enough.  So I decided to end the mix with two of my own tracks, Can't Play which was my second track made and my latest one, Beautiful Persons.
I was also so happy to be able to play a track I melted in 1998 in my attic room in Nottingham.  I got excited when Defected bought Strictly Rhythm's back catalogue but The Believers, Heather Wildman - Gotta Keep Holding On wasn't released.  Imagine my surprise when it suddenly shows up in Traxsource!

Finally broke my Soul of Sydney duck.  I went to their very first party at Sydney Park maybe 14 years ago with my then two little boys.  The youngest who was only two took to it like a duck.  He dragged me into the middle of the makeshift dancefloor and started dancing.  He didn't want to leave.
Fast forward to 2025 and I'm the one behind the decks spinning vinyl classics from 91-94. 
It was a beautiful sunny day and the vibe reflected it.  Smiley happy house heads everywhere you looked.
I wasn't sure what I was going to play, but as set time approached Terry playing before me was putting some thickness out of those speakers, so I started with something chunkier to match - Frankie Knuckles 2005 hit - Back In The Day.
From there it was back to back classics, not the big obvious ones, you hear them all the time at classics events.  No this was the cool stuff that we all loved but it stayed very much underground.
The only exception is towards the end when I decided to drop my latest track - Beautiful Persons.  It samples Beautiful People which meant it fit nicely alongside tracks more than 30 years older.
So many kind words from everyone after the set.  Such a wicked crowd, as most older crowds are, knowledgable, friendly, want to have fun, and don't have their phones out all the time - THEY ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE MOMENT!!!

Huge thank you to Phil & Sam for having me onboard.  Well done to the other DJs, the music was solid from start to finish.  And we can't leave out the energies bunny that is Mirrah Reflects 🙌🏾 and all of the Soul Patrol ✊🏾.
Finally big shout to the amazing crowd.  I wish I could play for you all every week!

I'm on Vocal Booth Radio tonight, having just listened to this I'm in a really nostalgic mood.  Looks like I'm heading back to 92.

We had another special guest DJ on the show this week, DJ So Michael from Sydney.  Tried to get him on before Xmas, but you know Xmas.  So glad we didn't let it slip and so here we are.
Sol is a very rare talent having started DJing at the very tender age of eight!  By 14 he was playing in Sydney's clubs warming up for the likes of Dave Lee (back when he had his cool name) no less.
His Mum was a raver waaaay back in the day which exposed Sol to Acid House, Hip House and everything else going on over 35 years ago.  You will hear this influence loud and clear throughout the mix.
Now age 21 Sol has a fortnightly residency at the Erko as well as playing alongside myself for Larry's Herd.  One of the highlights of his career was a recent week long residency at a Bali beach club!  I gotta me some of that action too, it looked awesome.
We had a lot of fun doing the show, Sol played for the first hour followed by a little chat to get to know him a little better.  We then went b2b for the rest of the show, playing one tune each.
Sol brought a box of vinyl and in the second hour every track he played was wax.  I desperately wanted to do the same.  This was a very rare chance for me to play my late 80's tunes.  Unfortunately we hit a snag, the right turntable wouldn't sit in the groove of the records.  I adjusted it so many times, but it just kept gliding.  That meant I had to play digital, which sadly only goes as far back as 91, so I was unable to follow Sol in the same sub genre.
The mix doesn't rally suffer as a result.  You wouldn't have given a second thought if I hadn't said something.
Have to give a big shout out to the amazing support we got during the show from Lee Sutch, Elyssa White and Sol's Mum Fee Erika.

c2eMusic Radio Show On VBR - Sol Michael 15/4/25

This mix is a recording from the set I played for Night Safari on March 22nd at Carousel in Sydney.
Carousel is a relatively new club that recently got voted one of the top clubs in the world!!  It's somewhere I go regularly, the sound system alone cost $600k AUD!  Funktion one throughout, even in the bathroom they have a small Funktion One!
It's been a dream of mine to play there ever since it opened.  The DJ Booth is so cool, elevated above the dancefloor, but surrounded by VIP.  The decks sit on a suspended table to reduce noise to the turntables.
I was on warm up duty and so kicked things off to an empty club.
I will come clean, some of the transitions in this mix make me wince.  I was aware of a couple I had to wrestle on the night, but the recording highlights a few more.  It's a shame because the tunes are superb.  But hey, shows that this cat does NOT use the Sync button.  
I don't get to play this kind of music in Sydney very often unfortunately.
As always these days I took the liberty of dropping my last two tracks towards the end of the mix.

I'm looking forward to the next Night Safari, being able to play unrestricted.  The crowd are great too, there was such cool energy in the room all night.

With the exception of the dodgy mixing in places I'm really proud of this set.  It was done on the fly and I love the warehouse sounding early tunes.  It reminds me of the good old days in the early 90s, getting into the club early.  Empty dancefloor, minimal NY style house beats.

Thanks again Tolga for inviting me to play, can't wait to do it all over again.

Another special guest show and this month I'm proud to present good friend and Sydney legend DJ Dante Rivera, founder of Klubhouse and countless other Sydney events over the years.  Dante was partly responsible for my exposure to Sydney clubbers.  He was the first person to reach out post Covid to ask if I would play for Klubhouse.  That set has resulted in me playing for multiple promoters around the city.
Anyone that knows Dante knows to expect ass shaking Latin House vibes all the way and he didn't dissapoint.
The first hour is all Dante so expect to find yourself tapping out percussion on the steering wheel or shuffling across the kitchen to get something out of the fridge.
We go b2b for the second hour, which I will admit was a stretch for me.  My Latin House is mainly European from the 00's - you can really hear the difference to Dante's authentic sounds, but that's all I have!  Hopefully it doesn't spoil your enjoyment of the back nine.

Anyone in the city this weekend, you can catch me a Tatler on Friday for a full takeover.  Yeah baby I got the place to myself from 9pm to 3am.  Whilst I love long sets I will be bringing in another friend Gary Ward to help out.
Between us we'll be playing the finest house tunes the last 35 years have produced.

Who Dat?

This is a fun mix from May this year.  Just before the start of the show I thought of playing only Copyright and Liquid People music since they were both big UK producing duos of the 00's and I had a decent amount of both of their catalogue.
Very much unplanned so no idea how it would turn out.  Would there be enough variation in energy to allow the mix to flow?
Luckily there was bucket loads.  I wasn't initially going to release the mix as I wanted to have a go at programming a tighter set - the perfect mix.  However I haven't got round to it and this version has grown on me so I'm gonna share it with you all.
For those that don't know Copyright consists of Londoner Gavin Mills (aka DJ Face) a big cheese in both the house and garage scenes in the 90's, a former hairdresser, big Japanese toy collector and now photographer.  
The other half is Sam Holt who is a huge trainer nut with a BIG collection, former MD at Team Saatchi and hails from my part of the world growing up just down the M55 in Preston.  The two were introduced to each other by Matt Jam Lamont's girlfriend in the late 90's.  They ran Copyright Records, initial distributed by Soulfuric and later Defected.  They were one of the main acts on the house scene in the late 00's-early 10's travelling the world headlining for Defected.
Liquid People consist of Conan Manchester and Dan Smith.  Conan aka Conan Liquid hails from Colchester in Essex, a master behind the decks as well as in the studio.  Had an early release on Strictly Rhythm in 98 under the name O.S.O.T.A. with a track called "Sunny's Theme".  
Dan Smith aka Danism a Cambridge boy is the soulful side of Liquid People complimenting Conan's percussive flair.
The pair came together and formed Liquid People in 1999 working out of H.O.T.H. studios in Conan's home town.  The blend of Conan's beat expertise and Dan's soulful production defines their signature groove.

I tried hard to mix it up so it's not just a run on any one artist.  We played a game in the chatroom all show where you had to guess whether it was Copyright or Liquid People.  It was actually harder than you'd first imagine.
As you will hear it's a real upbeat mix from the glory days of 00's house.  Some BIG tunes from both duos.
The majority is on vinyl due to the age, so I was frantically flicking through my records trying to find all of their music!
The mixing isn't perfect which held me back from releasing.  But if I don't release no one else can ever hear it, and it could become your favourite mix of summer, so here it is.  There is easily enough left over to make a volume 2.

It was an honour to make this mix and salute two absolute legend duos of the UK house scene.  Thank you gentlemen for your contribution, your music lives on in record collections all over the world.
