Soma welcome Glasgow based DJ/producer Secluded aka Hans Bouffmyhre to the label as he debuts with us with his fantastic Mercy EP. Hans has become quite the force in the underground techno scene over the last few years with releases on the likes of Electric Deluxe and, of course, his own Sleaze imprint. With Soma, he brings out his Secluded alias which strips things back with the aim to explore a new techno vibe, inspired by sounds from Berlin & Detroit. Secluded productions are characterised with a deep pounding beat, softened by dubby synth passages and deep soundscapes, creating a gloomy atmosphere. Also appearing on the EP are two peak time Remixes from ROD.

Title track Mercy opens the EP with an old school chord driving this monster from Secluded. Backed perfectly with on point percussion and a quite healthy kick drum, this track certainly sets the tone for the EP  

Pastures takes things on a suitably deeper turn. With a pulsing sub bass rattling through you and a resonated synth line that eerily creeps in, taking the track upwards. Simple yet effect drums work this track straight onto the dance floor as Secluded created a perfect peak time Techno workout.

After his fantastic reworks of Slams Positive Education, ROD is back to bring his unique, old school, jackin’ take on Secluded’s Mercy. Remix One uses the original chord filtered & processed as 909 drums punch in and out to devastating effect. Remix Two loops out the chord sample making this a more hypnotic, looped out jackin techno number.

Radio Slave announces Rekids Special Projects ‘Actualize’ compilation and DJ mix - Part 1 will be released in January, with Part 2 to follow in February 2023.

Rekids Special Projects, the no-nonsense techno-focused sub-label of Radio Slave, aka Matt Edwards’ Rekids, launched in 2017 and has since released music from the likes of Mark Broom, Luke Hess, Jon Hester, and more. For the 50th release, Edwards readies ‘Actualize’, bringing acts from the wider Rekids universe into one slick collection, with the first part arriving this January alongside a DJ mix of the tracks.

“The original concept was a vinyl-only offshoot of Rekids, focusing on techno and a home for our extended family of artists. We’re now working with so many new and exciting young artists, such as Confidential Recipe and the incredible Theo Nasa, and Rekids Special Projects is a rock-solid platform to shout about good quality club-focused techno music. Jel Ford kicks off his return EP with two tracks of clean big room techno. The title track ‘Backyard’ is a moody affair with a low drone throughout that is complimented with layered synth stabs. Using reverb to create atmosphere within the track it subtly breaks down before a vocal hook transcends the track to deliver a killer blow. ‘Meeting of Minds’ is dubbier and uses a tripped out synth to add rhythm whilst working alongside a synth pattern to keep the track chugging along. The slow evolving pads add texture and keep the track nicely filled out whilst this timeless classic keeps on giving.
