In 1974, "Timeless" (ECM) opened my ears and expanded my guitar palette. John quickly became one of my guitar heroes. He played with so many legends and other heroes of mine, such as Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Eddie Gomez, Dave Holland, and Ralph Towner, to name but a few...

While enjoying a cup of coffee and setting up for a recording session with electric guitar, I learned John passed away after suffering a stroke earlier this year. He was still working at 72 and had released his last record in January.

Tones were tweaked. Levels were set. And this bombastic reinterpretation was tracked for signal-flow check. Not the vibes, cello, and french horn I would prefer to cover this gem, but a Les Paul was raised in honor of a true master of space. RIP.
