Super RobCo Disco Battle started as a Sunday afternoon project in mid-June 2013. The idea was to create a classic arcade battle melody spiced up with a techy Disco groove. It took around half a day to compose the basic melodies and two more studio sessions with Artfx! (https://soundcloud.com/artfx) to pimp it up with a jumpy Sega bassline, self-made arcade sound effects, additional Disco percussions & an awesome mastering.

The name of the track is a reference to the computer/console game Fallout & and is especially dedicated to the legendary “RobCo Industries” corporation, one of the biggest & most influential computer and robotics corporations in the (future) United States of America. Just imagine Mr. Handy & Yes Man fighting a deadly “John Travolta style” Disco battle in front of a Nuka Cola vending machine. Makes perfect sense, huh? :)

An early beta version of the track has been released in issue #14 of the weekly Chiptune Podcast “This Week in Chiptune” by DJ Cutman (https://soundcloud.com/djcutman).

Hitboxx ( https://soundcloud.com/hitboxx ), a Chiptune composer from France created a cool breakbeat remix of an earlier version of the track. You can listen to his version here:

Super RobCo Disco Battle was created using Renoise (http://www.renoise.com/) & Cubase (http://www.steinberg.net). The lead and some of the bass samples are from the NES & the Sega Mega Drive. The Chiptune arps have  entirely  been designed in Renoise.

Most tracks come from Stone Oakvalley's Amiga Music Collection (SOAMC). The stereo mix version is used, which uses "65% blend mixed L/R channels". Some have a brief fade-in, fade-out edit by me to make for nicer transitions.

Zoned - a nostalgic trip (at the speed of sound) down Sonic The Hedgehog's memory lane. Zoned aims to pay homage to the creativity and impact of Sonic The Hedgehog's legacy by reimagining a selection of OSC's favourite compositions from the golden age of 90s Sonic The Hedgehog games. The musical style is OSC's signature blend of Electro-Funk and Retrowave with sprinklings of Chiptune. Included on this album are tracks from both 8 and 16 bit versions of Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Sonic Chaos. Also interweaved into this album are soundbites from the games themselves, excerpts from 90s SEGA TV commercials, and dialogue from various video game documentaries that discuss both the significance of SEGA and Sonic The Hedgehog in the history and develop of video games and video game music.

This is a remix of The 8-Bit Guy's Atari Junk Keyboard tune - or rather an elaboration on the initial theme David made before the whole thing crashed on him. The intro sample is the original sound which I meticulously sampled partials from and re-used throughout the song, albeit with added effects and filters.

Tried to honour parts of David's theme throughout the song, but some parts just grew out of inspiration.

Thanks to David for the inspiration and Ben Heck and his team for making the thing, without it, this song would not have existed. ;)
