When We Were Young

There's no denying the influence dubstep has had on us in the last few years, the energy and versatility of the genre is really exciting to us. This is our first foray in to that sound and Liz has done a cracking job on vocals once again here...

Carl Loben's review of this track really summed up nicely what we set out to do with this tune, so I'll let him do the talking...

"As the opening seconds of 'Moments In Time' unfold, we are actually transported back in time. Back to the mid-'90s and the oceanic jungle of PFM, LTJ Bukem and the like. Lush tropical pads - sort of bursting into a glistening rainforest clearing - and kookaburras in trees are augmented by steely Source Direct breakbeats that tuffen in the mid-section for a deep, emotive piece."

Moments In Time

C83 (Class of 83) are production partnership Sam Gordon and Jon Guntrip, based in London, UK.

Sam has been producing drum n bass records since he was 18 and first track came out in 1994 under the alias Missing. Further projects included Shoguns Assassins, Secta One and X-Generation with over 15 releases on seminal labels such as 3rd Party, Kemet, Tearin Vinyl, NineBar, Swag and Acid Jazz. Old school Jungle heads will remember the tracks such as "The Box Remix", "Flex & Relax", "Known Around the Hood", "Explicit Lyrics" & "Thr33 Blak Bros".

In 2001 Sam's younger cousin Jon introduced Sam to the nu skool breaks sound and C83 was born...

Both have been keen vinyl collectors since an early age and have crates of early 80's Electro, vintage Chicago House and Garage, UK Hardcore, Jungle, old skool hip hop and of course breakbeat of every flavour. These influences are highly evident in their productions which combine what they feel are some of best elements of all these genres.

Since 2001 C83 have released a number of original tracks and remixes on top breaks labels en:vision, W9Y, Sound not Scene and Default and have featured in the sets of the scenes top DJs. Tracks have also been licenced to compilations on React, Fabric and Nascent. 1983 to them was a never to be repeated watershed in the evolution of electronic music. Hashims's "The Soul", Cybotron "Clear", Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", Jonzun Crew "Pack Jam", Man Parrish "Hip Hop Be Bop" to name but a few tore up the rule book and redefined music for ever. However modern dance music progresses we will all be indebted to the original Class of '83...
