The sound is the result of a body movement which is a result of a nervous process which is a reaction to the percieved sound.

constellations / imprints of a body (in the air) (2003)

During the evening, c8400’s sound compositions will make use of the sounds and noises of the space where Art’s Birthday Party is taking place. The sound ambience of the venue will be transformed in real-time by itself with me serving as the mediator. C8400 serves as a catalyst enabling shifts in the acoustic parametres of the space. A shift of the audio-space attempts to create a new experience closely connected to the space and time at which it is taking place.

c8400 vs machine funck: CRo slice'n'dice live (abp 2007)

The number of constantly broadcasting radio stations can be a representation of a development leading to a multiplicity of voices and opinions in society. At the same time it causes us distress because of the increasing number of options from which we have to choose. Technological progress frees us from hardware limits of data transfer rates, but it does not solve the dilemmas of the information recipient. At this stage the role of selection, reduction, transformation and reinterpretation of the unceasing data flow increases.

The CRo slice’n’dice project is based on this methods, which become the basic working methods in both culture production and, in a broader perspective, of any human intellectual work.

The Czech Radio (CRo) channels (broadcast on air and streamed on-line) will be cut up, transformed and rearranged in real time. There will two components involved in this process: C8400 as a cultural DJ and sound de-constructor will be surfing between available channels, mixing audio streams in real time and charging them with the electrical energy of machine noise. Machine Funck will use selected sound streams to recreate new constantly changing body of sound depending on the radio broadcast as well as the space where the performance takes place. Here the CRo broadcast will be interpreted and transformed into its final form of a sound and music collage evolving in time.

The audience will be presented with a compressed version of the virtual temporal space created by the CRo broadcast in the form of a stream of interdependent sound events and rhythms.

C8400 vs machine funck - ABP rehearsal (2007)

“ghost in the machine” is a work commissioned by Cesky Rozhlas 3 - Vltava, the third station of the Czech national radio. It was broadcasted on 21st September 2005 as part of the PremEdice Radioatelieru program. It is a mix of older and brand new pieces, giving an overview of c8400’s sound research from its beginning up to the present day. 

After its broadcast, the piece was published on a CD "rAdioCUSTICA selected 2005".

C8400 examines the relationship between humans and technological devices (consumer electronics). Devices have been designed for a certain purpose. To what extent does the idea of the designer correspond to the needs of the user? C8400 ab/uses electronic devices (radios, tape recorders, sound mixers) as autonomous sound sources. The devices stop acting as sound players only, but become musical instruments by themselves. Sound carriers in the form of cassettes, CDs or radio waves serve as a sample bank, supplying readily available raw material. The device is freed from its slave work of re-playing music and spoken word, and becomes the source of original soundscapes.

Another idea behind c8400 is to preserve creativity on a grassroots level. Creativity in the media context becomes the domain of fewer and fewer people. The majority of population is put into the role of consumers. Devices become more and more limited in their functions and that in spite of manufacturers’ claims about being multifunctional and versatile. The possibility of free adjustment of a device is getting more limited and replaced by a “broader amount of choices” - a term fully compliant with Orwell’s doublespeak, because it does not mean anything else than the limitation of these choices.

The origin of the c8400 project was the work with electronic consumer devices in an effort for an alternative way of utilizing them, putting them into a different context. It is rooted in reality, in my environment. By extracting raw sounds from raw reality I created an antipode to popular “music”, and that by using equipment primarily designed to play back this kind of “music”. When creating sound compositions, I am of course influenced by music I am listening to. In the end, the “real world” percolates even into this compositions of machine music, be it on the form of sound samples or rhythmical - “musical” - structures. Sounds in the compositions of c8400 are often generated through feedback or an internal physical loop - that means situations when the device interacts with itself, while other signals are penetrating into this inner world from outside. The linear model of the communication process with feedback is imposed onto the device which becomes its central element, both source and destination, and ceases its role of a simple signal transmitter.
