She calls herself C.A.R. now. And we are all riding shotgun. Maybe we have an uneasy smile on our face. We are drunk from the speed, slightly unhinged by our being attracted by the mere possibility of a crash. 

Chloe is like dodge charger, a muscle cat of nine lives. When many would have ended rotten in a barn, she has used dust and rust to become C.A.R., born out of pain and plain hard work. 

After the release of the Laika EP, many of our friends came forward to tweak HIJK: 

Timothy J Fairplay [the asphodells], a long time music partner of Chloe (he was also part of Battant)and member for life of the Weatherall Axis, turns it into a electrowave chugger. Check his new label, Crimes of the Future, his tape for Cassette Day, the guy is hard to follow. All is in this one but all is out there too. 

Krikor felt that HIJK was like Crash Course in Science for our days and that is literally what he has done. Turns are flying indeed, olds chool, new school. 

Finally Discodeine seem to us for Deine that Disco these days. And we like that. This is a post-industrial fury of a mix, blowing all locked doors out in the open, a V8, no silencer. 

There may well be a last minute surprise soon as the Get A Room! guys love A Ticket so much that… but shhhhh...

The mighty C.A.R. returns to Ransom Note Records with splendid new single, Anzu, for another excursion into hitherto uncharted territory. Their first new music on Ransom Note Records since the 2020 LP, Crossing Prior Street, C.A.R. (aka Chloé Raunet + Joni Green on live duties) treats us to an Avant Pop masterpiece, which conceals a somewhat insalubrious undercurrent...

Anzu is a song drenched in personal history, written about bygone days, when life revolved around a now lost pub in a sewn-up pocket of town. References might scream from the sleeve, but we’re not swimming in nostalgia. This is a deceivingly dark song. Any sweetness chased at the time ain’t to be sugar-coated.

On the flip side, R$N Records and Bytes regular GLOK (a.k.a. Andy Bell of Ride and Oasis fame) has reworked Anzu into an utterly filthy little basement club number. Dripping in sordid fervour, the wonky bass line arrives like a shot the chest cavity, leaving us a little breathless at first. The sheer force of the forward momentum of it soon has us back on our feet though, as we’re propelled onto the dance floor, where this remix has very firmly made its home.

Available on super limited edition 7”, clear vinyl (only 50 copies pressed!), they come with an exclusive, hand printed tote bag, fanzine, poster AND badge pack at a bargain price of just £35.. One for all the collectors out there!

Back in February, @c_a_r aka Chloé Raunet released her second album to huge acclaim from the likes of DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and Trax Magazine. With Raunet taking on the mantle of producer, singer and songwriter, 'PINNED' refined her palette of glimmering electronics and post-punk angles over 11 tracks of hazy, claustrophobic synth pop. 

Chloé has been hard at work on the follow-up ever since, and we’re delighted to be putting out her third album next year. Before we get ahead of ourselves though, there’s a special Xmas treat in the form of the final single to be taken from 'PINNED'. Possibly our favourite track on the album, ‘Flat Out at the Sockhop’ has been one of the highlights of the C.A.R. live show this year, and now it gets the much-deserved video treatment. 

The B-side is a new track, one of C.A.R.’s most desolate synth landscapes. “‘All But…’ was written on a long winter night towards the end of the year”, Chloé explains. “’Tis the season of over-indulgent emotions - counter-festive, brooding & melancholic. Woolly and woven, strings pluck and pull their way through a druggy fabric, all overlaid with dreamy, musing vocals.” 

Even the harshest winter eventually comes to pass, and the ice finally thaws with @manfredas' rather special dancefloor remix of ‘Daughters’ - a perfect aural representation of losing yourself in pulsing colours and beams of light.

London residing, Franco-Canadian Chloé Raunet aka C.A.R. has been immersed in the world of post-punk, cold wave and her own brand of off-kilter synth-pop since the days fronting her band Battant. Playful, machine-driven and dark, C.A.R.’s music travels between glacial electronica, post-punk and warming, introspective pop, all emanating from a self-confessed crush on too many genres.

This is the first new material to emerge from Raunet under her C.A.R. moniker since last year’s triumphant and critically acclaimed PINNED album - her first outing on Ransom Note Records. Growing with confidence and maturity with every release, her output continues to expand in both ambition and depth, exploring the outer reaches of left of centre pop.
Taking on the mantle of producer, singer, and songwriter once again, Pressure Drop sees her delve deeper into the shimmering, layered world of synth-laden, shoegaze electronics she’s been hinting at on previous outings

We’ve kept the remix action short but sweet this time around - i.e. not 14 remixes of one record.
Uber remixer extraordinaire Suzanne Kraft re-treats Raunet’s vocals, twisting the track into a brooding, bubbling, late-night, dance floor thing of beauty.

“Stop my heart it runs ahead, like a dog it barks, roll over, play dead.”

Second original track on the EP ‘Suture’ sees her explore the further depths of Raunet’s soul, refining her palette with glimmering, claustrophobic electronics.

This new material - packed with intricate left turns and tiny details flickering away at the edge of hearing - has been mixed by Daniel Avery collaborator Ghost Culture and mastered by Keith ‘Radioactive Man’ Tenniswood

In all the excitement of announcing C.A.R.'s second album on Ransom Note Records, we overlooked the incredible remix of 'Sore Loser' from Manie Sans Délire's Trenton Chase. Stripping back most of the vocals, he morphs the track into a hypnotic wave cut, propped up by driving synth lines. Crossing Prior Street will be released on 27th March with further remixes from the likes of Radioactive Man, Trenton Chase and Anna Wall...

C.A.R. (Choosing Acronyms Randomly) is a musical project conceived by Chloé Raunet, a multi-faceted creative living in London. Her self-confessed crush on too many genres results in a unique blend of glacial electronica, post-punk and warming, introspective pop. 

Following three albums on iconic, queer Parisian label Kill The DJ and UK’s Ransom Note, the live act now consists of herself and Joni Green. This latest combination champions female empowerment, injecting fresh energy and hype into the show. Together, they are building a reputation for pulsing, magnetic, sweaty and unforgettable performances. 

December marked another excursion into uncharted territory with the release ‘avant pop masterpiece’, Anzu. More new songs are tricking their way into the set, and C.A.R.'s next LP is on the near horizon.

A fan of the weirder edges of electronic music, Chloé also DJs and hosts the monthly 'On The Slip Road' show on NTS Radio.
