The other moons stay home as the full moon rises and sways, following the movement of the flute. The simple small gathering must last all night, so the flautist plays “night custodian,” keeping the moon charmed by blowing off two-inch strings of melody through a double barrel (one barrel in front of the other). Among the handful that have gathered: one claps, one taps foot, two more play cabasa and clave; all keep time for the flautist; the moment the flautist ceases, the moon will sink into the swamp.

Bolivia Manta are a Bolivian group created in France in 1977 by Carlos and Julio Arguedas who perform traditional music of pre-Hispanic and contemporary music of the Andes, particularly that of the Aymara and Quechua speaking people of Bolivia and also traditional music of peoples of Peru and Ecuador. Bolivia Manta albums is an encyclopedia of Andean folklore, these dances and songs are collected in different parts of Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, and the vast majority of tracks are authentical performance of traditional rural music. They perform their music on indigenous flutes, panpipes and drums, as well as stringed instruments introduced since the Spanish conquest. In 1981, the group wins the Académie Charles Cros Grand Prix[1] for the album Winayataqui. Four years later they receive a Laser d'or from the Académie du disque français for the album Pak'cha.

Sonido Guay Neñë - Al Compaz Del Sonajero (Rafael Aragon RMX) [Wakale Records, 2013]

Biomigrant is the musical project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Michael Alfred Wagner. In 2014, as part of a journey of musical exploration, he crossed Central America en bicycle, arriving to Colombia where he currently lives. As part of the Llorona Records tribute to the gaita flute master Manuel Antonio “Toño” García, Biomigrant put together a compilation of remixes of a piece made with the field recordings of Toño singing. El Buho, Quixosis, Lascivio Bohemia, Joaquín Cornejo, RLHBSLCN, Marcelo Bergés and Steffen Ki present beautiful and different takes of “La Muerte” giving us a broad picture of latin american electronic and world downtempo landscape.

I arrived to the house of the maestro Toño García in San Jacinto in May of 2014. I had just arrived to Colombia, finishing a bicycle journey that began in Guatemala. In Panama a traveling couple told me of Mr. García, and in Bogotá a friend put me in touch so I could visit him. I made it to San Jacinto, an iconic village of the Colombian Caribbean, and I spent various nights camping along the edge of the lake, in the mornings taking classes with Toño. I received my first Gaitas from him, while he showed me songs and told mi stories of his wanderings, struggles, successes, and loves.

Manuel Antonio ‘Toño’ García joined the Gaiteros de San Jacinto after the death of Mañe Mendoza, returning to a legacy that he had left behind for years to dedicate himself to agricultural work. Winner of a Latin Grammy for the album ‘Un Fuego de Sangre Pura’, along with a generation of the group that included his student Fredys Arrieta, el maestro sill lives in his house in San Jacinto where to this day he receives visits from a endless stream of students and lovers of Gaita music, sharing with them his music and wisdom.

There here taught me the song ‘Conmigo Nadie Se Meta’, written by Nando Coba. ‘La Muerte’ is a re-interpretation of that melody, with the voice of Toño and the gaita of Fredys. It was originally published en 2016 as part of ‘Aldea Mundial’, an audiovisual project (album and documentary) released with the chilean label Regional.

I am very grateful for the 7 tremendous artists and friends from Latin America and Europe for their remixes which offer a tribute to a great musician, person, and teacher. We are part of an emerging scene that looks to create a meeting grounds between electronica and traditional folk music, and the least we can do is try to give something back to those who have maintained the essence of rural musics.

All funds generated by this work will be given to Toño Garcia (who recently celebrated his 90th birthday) and his family as assistance that we hope will help to care for his health and upkeep in San Jacinto. Caballito da a luz en una cálida Granada en septiembre de 2010, fruto del reencuentro entre Bigote y Grita, dos auténticos exploradores y recicladores de los ritmos latinoamericanos.
Pioneros en nuestro país en esta corriente ElecTropical que poco a poco va invadiendo todo el globo, empiezan sus andadas publicando varias mixtapes en su propia web y en distintos blogs del subterráneo movimiento. Pronto decidirían ilustrar sus mezclas con una explosión de gifs animados, vídeos y colores estridentes y muy chillones (creados por ellos, son también apasionados de la imagen), creando así un entorno psicodélico, divertido y uniforme. Fue entonces cuando Grita y Bigote decidieron lanzarse a la producción estableciendo su propio netlabel, siguiendo la línea de la licencia libre (Creative Commons). De esta forma, todo lo publicado en Caballito, ya sean producciones suyas o de otros artistas, fluye libremente por la red.

Caballito is born in Granada, in September 2010, when Daniel aka Bigote and David aka Grita meet again. It was a while since these two guys were checking out traditional Latino-American rhythms and discovering the Digital Cumbia, new Tropical style emerging all around the world.
Caballito, pioneer in our Country within this musical current, started publishing mixtapes in his own web and in different blogs, with the intention of breaking our hips. But quickly this world was too small for them, so they started to flood us with videos and psychedelic gifs. Was at that time when Grita y Bigote jumped into production creating their own netlabel, whose phylosophy follow the free licence idea. All the stuff published - their own productions and the collaborators’ ones - all flow freely through the web.
