Cumbias & Reggaetones is an homage, and continuing study of the traditions, mutations, and rhythms that birth Cumbia, and Reggaeton. It draws influences from sonideros, ambient beats, Luny Tunes, and the myriad of cultural innovators from our past, and present in these genres. 

The tracks were composed, and recorded  in Stouffville, Ontario using the Digitakt, JU-06, Tiple, and samples.

Tracks 1 - 4 were mixed, and mastered by Julian Carrara at Chiplabstudio. Track 5 was engineered by este pechito ósea me, and mastered by Julian Carrara. All artwork, and design by Juanpi. 

I wish to thank ESCOBUTT, El Keamo, and Space Primo for their guidance, support, and/or generosity in sharing samples that inspired, elevated, and informed Cumbias & Reggaetones.

Special thank you to Julian Carrara for seeing the music to its full potential, and dedication.

Vulnerable EP: Cuando el ruido interno se convierte en forma

Hay momentos en la vida que no se explican, solo se sienten. Vulnerable es el resultado de uno de esos periodos: una etapa de quiebre en la que el suelo desaparece bajo los pies y lo único que queda es el eco de lo que alguna vez fue certeza. Este EP no busca respuestas, busca liberar. Es una descarga emocional en estado puro.

Los sonidos que lo componen no son complacientes. Hay tensión, hay fractura, hay ruido que incomoda y sacude. Cada pista es un paisaje mental marcado por la confusión, el encierro y la lucha constante con uno mismo. La música se convierte en un espejo que refleja una realidad rota, en la que las expectativas se derrumban una tras otra.

Y sin embargo, algo arde. Una luz mínima, pero inquebrantable, que persiste en medio del colapso. Es ahí donde este EP encuentra su centro: en la capacidad de resistir. En transformar la caída en impulso. En hacer de la fragilidad un lugar desde el cual reconstruirse con honestidad.

Vulnerable es un cierre, sí, pero también un umbral. Es la culminación de un proceso necesario para dejar atrás el peso de lo que ya no es, y el primer paso hacia algo más luminoso, más libre. No es una celebración de la oscuridad, sino del valor de atravesarla.

Esto no es solo música. Es un acto de redención personal. Un recordatorio de que, incluso cuando todo parece desmoronarse, la creación puede ser el hilo que nos mantiene unidos a nosotros mismos.

“El sonido de Caballito refleja el calor, la alegría, las raíces, las ganas de mover el culo, el sudor, la buena onda...”
Caballito da a luz en una cálida Granada en septiembre de 2010, fruto del reencuentro entre Bigote y Grita, dos auténticos exploradores y recicladores de los ritmos latinoamericanos.
Pioneros en nuestro país en esta corriente ElecTropical que poco a poco va invadiendo todo el globo, empiezan sus andadas publicando varias mixtapes en su propia web y en distintos blogs del subterráneo movimiento. Pronto decidirían ilustrar sus mezclas con una explosión de gifs animados, vídeos y colores estridentes y muy chillones (creados por ellos, son también apasionados de la imagen), creando así un entorno psicodélico, divertido y uniforme. Fue entonces cuando Grita y Bigote decidieron lanzarse a la producción estableciendo su propio netlabel, siguiendo la línea de la licencia libre (Creative Commons). De esta forma, todo lo publicado en Caballito, ya sean producciones suyas o de otros artistas, fluye libremente por la red.

Caballito is born in Granada, in September 2010, when Daniel aka Bigote and David aka Grita meet again. It was a while since these two guys were checking out traditional Latino-American rhythms and discovering the Digital Cumbia, new Tropical style emerging all around the world.
Caballito, pioneer in our Country within this musical current, started publishing mixtapes in his own web and in different blogs, with the intention of breaking our hips. But quickly this world was too small for them, so they started to flood us with videos and psychedelic gifs. Was at that time when Grita y Bigote jumped into production creating their own netlabel, whose phylosophy follow the free licence idea. All the stuff published - their own productions and the collaborators’ ones - all flow freely through the web.
