The painter must stay hungry. A mixture of innovation and classical techniques, knowledge of the origins and fresh trends allow him to worship a new approach, skillfully supplying his paintings with the necessary attributes to embody the image created in his head. The exhibition of works of a different order became the stronghold of the union of painters of the modern school: Anas Mokdad (@anasm_music), Matvey Kostyuchenko (@komeymusic) & Arkady Antsyrev (@antsyrev).

Two Romanians, a Brit and a German label sounds like the start of a bad joke but this banger is anything but, with all involved combining to make ‘SN Model’ a veritable European stew of intrinsically deep beats.

Romania’s Livio & Roby have been leading the way for their country in the world of deep techno for the last 10 years with releases on labels like Fumakilla and Vakant, and have turned their attention to a conceptual album called ‘Phantom Circle’. However, Siragusa’s British roots shine through on this track with its shuffling garage-style drums harking back to the ‘good old days’ of rave.

Tripmastaz AKA Andrew Guyvoronsky debuts for Cadenza Lab with the ‘Blossomz’ single; a trio of heady club cuts that typifies his hypnotising house sound and knack for the perfect groove. 

Originating from Moscow’s music scene, and slowly emerging as one of the more renowned Russian producers to influence global labels, Andrew has released music for Richie Hawtin’s Minus imprint, DJ Sneak’s own Magnetic Records, as well as other appearances on Cécille Records, Desolat and Shanti, all proving fantastic platforms for his minimal sound and guided musical expressions. 

Aside from his productions, Tripmastaz who runs his own label, 74 Records, has also held a residency at the impressive rooftop party Techno Gipsy since 2013, a further accreditation to his career as a Producer and DJ. With an illustrious remix career to match, collaborations with DJ Sneak have pushed him toward close affiliations with the House Gangster Movement and the funky side of house music so clearly important to his work. 

Lead track, ‘Blossomz’, opts for a captivating percussive groove, whilst vocal samples are put through the wormhole to create rhythmic effects; fans of Mountain People/Sasha Dive will lap up this vibe for sure.  ‘Sublimely Relieved (Cuban Linx)’ raises the energy level somewhat; a snaking bassline slithers around the crisp drum pattern seductively, as light keys sprinkle over the dubby house sound.  A ‘Bass Dub’ is also offered up, offering an alternate take to round off the release with added weight.

After a brief time away from releasing music in 2017 to refresh his ears, essential house artist Argy is back with a bang in 2018, as this debut EP on Play It Say It proves. 

Greek DJ and producer Argy has been a prolific talent over the last decade plus, releasing a variety of sounds under a number of different aliases. His given name has always been reserved for house and techno, which is classically informed but always infused with the sound of the future. It’s come on key labels like Bedrock, BPitch, Ibadan, and most recently The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin’ Headz imprint, and has spawned four fantastic full lengths. Those releases, along with his storytelling DJ sets, have made the These Days label boss a much loved and ever-present part of the global underground scene. 

The excellent title track ‘The Way of Kings’ opens up the EP with seven standout minutes of surging house. Slick, powerful kicks drive it along as expertly crafted synths bring real drama and tension up top. It’s a tasteful bit of hi-tech soul for the peak of the night and is as essential as the title suggests. 

Switching up the mood is the vibrant ‘Los Animales’, which has a busier, afro tinged groove and tribal percussive energy. Lithe synths dart about to add dynamism and movement as vocal chants get you on your toes and the whole thing is sure to make a huge impact in the club. 

Last of all, ‘Move Like A Panther’ featuring the New Yorker in Berlin, Elbee Bad, shows another side to Argy. It’s a perfectly raw house cut with plenty of jacking Chicago spirit. The drums hit hard, the synths are trippy and the snares force you to move. Add in a dark bassline and spoken word mantras and you have a real piece of explosive club dynamite. 

These are three typically inventive and well executed tracks from Argy that are stuffed with original ideas.
