Honored to welcome recent LA arrival John Jones to the series for Volume 47. He records music solo as Nerftoss / AV Moves / Calvin, and is involved in a collaborative project called Geo Rip. This mix served as an exercise for him to find a meeting point between sounds that initially sparked his interest in the genre of electronic music in the early 2000’s, and the stuff him, his friends, and contemporaries are making now. A sentiment to a past self through moods and melodic elements.

Originaire d'Arménie, Lucia étend son spectre musical à tous les genres et s'essaye sans cesse à insuffler des airs de son pays dans une vibe tantôt obscure, tantôt vive. Elle a récemment commencé à faire ressortir la diversité de la musique arménienne dans ses podcasts intitulé "Panorama Yerevan" sur NTS.

“Some of the music on this mix is very old, some of it is so new that it isn’t out yet. In my mind all of it is traditional, spiritual and ceremonial. A ceremony can be a collective improvisation by Paul Bley and his band, Lo Ka Ping playing the Guqin, King Tubby in his studio - Everybody is trying to channel something. This sentiment, abstract as it may be, leads me in the search of new sounds and trying to humbley arrange them one after the other”.

Cafe OTO opened in April 2008 with the aim of providing a home for creative new music that exists outside of the mainstream. It comprises one large cafe/performance space open during the day serving food and drink with an evening programme of live music almost seven nights a week. 

OTOROKU is part of OTOProjects - a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) that has been set up to manage the programme at Café Oto. Any profits from OTOROKU are put back into supporting what we do and will help us to continue programming the best musicians and performers from all over the world.
