Exhibition series, micro artist residency and pub at LADØNS gallery

LADØNS gallery turns into "Dienst" for 5 weeks. In the front room with a shop window facing the street, 4 invited artists spend a one-week micro-residency while receiving a basic income. On weekdays Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5:30 pm (lunch break 0,5 h) the artist produces artworks. Friday is vernissage day. Until Saturday night or Sunday visitors can take a look at the created work(s). With a pub scenario in the back room, the symbolic place of segregated, precarious side jobs is integrated directly into the space of artistic production. Dienst deals with and criticizes the working conditions in the visual arts and creates a space that enables discourses about class, money, new concepts for (financially) safer artistic production, fears, needs and wishes (tbc).

Veelargo es un productor de música electrónica español que reside en Polonia (Cracovia) desde 2016, después de haber vivido en Inglaterra dos años.

Empezó a interesarse por la música siendo adolescente y su pasión por ella le llevó primero a pinchar y gradualmente a producir. Sus influencias son muy variadas y van desde el IDM, Ambient, Electro o Techno, al Krautrock, EBM o Post Punk.

Para Veelargo, componer música electrónica es sinónimo de libertad absoluta y lo considera como constante aprendizaje, rigiéndose por cierta disciplina basada en constancia para aprender y mejorar su técnica.

Para el segundo podcast de Mutoscope Records, Veelargo ha grabado en exclusiva un directo de sus propias producciones (algunas aún inéditas). Durante la escucha, la primera conclusión es más que evidente, Veelargo rehúye lo convencional y promueve su evolución creativa desde el extremo.

Veelargo inunda al oyente con un gran acopio de sonidos orgánicos, por momentos hipnóticos y transparentes, administrándolos a la perfección con percusiones procesadas y melodías preciosistas. En cuanto al planteamiento rítmico, el artista mantiene la atención del oyente a través de medios tiempos y estructuras más complejas y contundentes, que en algunas ocasiones se retuercen en pedazos, siendo éstos los instantes más arriesgados del live.

Lo más relevante es que todos los elementos, sonidos e ideas de este directo identifican un sonido propio, dejando entrever la inquietante personalidad de su creador durante todo el desarrollo del mismo.

This latest release is due December 23, 2022 from T. Nguyen touches on the mode of seeking, identity, and the inner make-up of the world within us. In 2019, the writing of these vignettes started to grasp various geographical locations from the north of England interplaying with 130 + bpm drive, and deep den club nights during his past travels. Throughout the Name & Form EP, one hears the overlying theme of tape smashing against synthetic organs from a Roland keyboard, Garage music shuffles and found sounds archived from dusty old records.
Visions from his trip to Leeds in the 2010’s, when Northern Bassline and Organ House scenes were prominent, can be heard permeating throughout the listening experience while boundless sound forms wrestle with the finite space of a Teac X-10R Reel to Reel tape machine. Finally finished in late 2022, T. Nguyen takes these works and gives a non local response, recreating conversations between past destinations and triggering momentary concepts of existence in future listeners.

Nguyen's process in manipulation of frequencies, analog tape, digital sounds and the finite change created the mediums. "

In collaboration for Dekmantel Festival 2018, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision’s RE:VIVE initiative and Dekmantel teamed up for the second time to invite four local artists to breathe new life into 4 archival films from the Sound and Vision and EYE Filmmuseum archives. Jordan GCZ, Suzanne Kraft, Parrish Smith and upsammy were all assigned short animated films dating back to 1921. The films and their new scores debuted at EYE on August 2nd. Unsurprisingly, each artist imparted their unique styles onto the films that they previously had no relation with. From Suzanne Kraft's sparse atmospherics that have become more apparent in his new SK U KNO project to Jordan GCZ’s free flowing hardware jams. Parrish Smith showed his contemplative side and sparse orchestrations that he demonstrated on his RE:VIVE release, Genesis Black, a sonic departure from his bombastic releases and DJ-sets while upsammy showed yet again her deft hand for melody and texture, a style that dominates all her releases to date. 

These four scores can live apart from their films, fitting seamlessly into each artists' growing catalogs of work. But when combined, it’s as if the films and music were made simultaneously with the artist and filmmaker together in the same room. Dekmantel and RE:VIVE are proud to present these new works as the electronic music scene in The Netherlands continues to show its multifaceted talent that continues to expand far beyond the dance floor.

Cafe OTO opened in April 2008 with the aim of providing a home for creative new music that exists outside of the mainstream. It comprises one large cafe/performance space open during the day serving food and drink with an evening programme of live music almost seven nights a week.
