Lapis: the ancient, exquisite deep blue gemstone lapis lazuli; the azurite waters of the Mediterranean sea; and a little-known computer programming language. The colour blue is around us all the time, in nature and in artifice, from the skies above us to the harsh light bursting through our phone screens, 24/7. This five-movement miniature explores the contrasts between organic and mechanic, with three slow, reflective movements interspersed with two depicting incessant, ticking machinery.
