Berlin based Diego Hernandez joins us to tell us about his Eck Echo label platform and the new 'Radio Amazonia' compilation they have just released as part of a wider project raising money for the building of radio receivers in order to bring remote education to the children in remote parts of the Peruvian Amazon.

Cal Jader runs through another selection of future and classic Latin and Tropical sounds - starting with some Latin Amapiano vibes from Vhoor and Biomigrant meets El Búho moving into some more electronic sounds from Ecuador with new tracks from Quixosis and Kaifo, bass heavy cuts from Carthnage and Dana Lu plus Cumbia from Felipe Orjuela and Fran G, incredible new Andean sounds from Luzmila Carpio and going more downtempo with Balthvs and Granfergo. Plus to close the show we invited the amazingly talented Brazilian artist Bia Ferreira for a chat and she sings one track live in the studio.

Combining qgom drum rhythms with amapiano inspired log drums / baselines.

Gqom was developed from kwaito, a subgenre of house music from South Africa. Unlike other South African electronic music, gqom is typified by minimal, raw and repetitive sound with heavy bass beats but without the four-on-the-floor rhythm pattern.

From deep house and soulful beats to funky rhythms, Latin classics, and everything in between, each track is selected for its energy, promising a unique experience every time without being confined by genre.

Sunset Sips 001 - Sabrosito Mix - Pao Pestana -

We are delighted to present our take on "Disco Musical Stories", a collection of psychedelic children's songs, lullabies and cartoon soundtracks, from Agadez to Kabul to Jakarta and beyond, from the archives of Arshia Fatima Haq and Jeremy Loudenback (plus a shout out to Natasha Noorani for contributing "Bara Mahinay" + Madinah Wardak Noorai for Afghan music research). The title is from Sharda's iconic children's album, which inspired our search for these cuts over the last decade. Originally aired on NTS Radio, June 8, 2020.

Disco Musical Stories

Cal Jader is one of the musical activists behind London Latin cultural protagonists Movimientos and co-host of one of London's finest tropical / global bass parties Love Carnival. With his trademark blend of latin beats, carnival rhythms and fresh global sounds he is helping to soundtrack London's underground music scene with regular sets across the capital, as well as around the UK and Europe. 
He's also played at clubs and festivals around the globe as far afield as Mexico City, Beirut, Bogota, Kuala Lumpar, Istanbul, and a 10 date tour all around Brazil in Rio, Salvador, Brasilia and at carnival in Recife. In the UK he's played everywhere from festivals like Bestival and Glastonbury as well as closing WOMAD in Fuerteventura, and has shared stages with world class live acts like Manu Chao, Bomba Estereo, Novalima, and Calle 13 as well as Chico Trujillo and La Yegros. He continues to champion the new generation of producers from Latin American and has played alongside the likes of El Búho, Chancha Via Circuito, DJ Raff, Kaleema and Uji.
