The "Pelé: King of Football" mobile soccer game app was released on iOS and Android right before the 2014 Brazil World Cup, and has been downloaded over seven million times. I originally produced the app's high energy samba and bossa nova-flavored score for playback on mobile device speakers. I produced these fully realized remixes for Rio 2016 Olympics-related broadcast licensing and beyond.

The Thrill of Victory

This remix grew out of the Main Menu theme from the "Pelé: King of Football" app, a rousing hymn to the gods of Brazilian futbol. This piece envisions the energy and excitement of a marching band playing from the pitch of Rio's Maracana stadium to a capacity crowd at the 2014 World Cup. A samba bateria and apito whistle get the party rolling. Then a brass fanfare amps up the crowd, which erupts into an anthemic bossa nova style terrace chant. Viva the beautiful game!

This uptempo samba/house/electronic groove gets its CHIC on with funky horns, bouncy electric bass, and percolating Brazillian percussion, including a frenetic berimbau feature.

Bossa Nada

"National" level theme from "Pelé: King of Football" app, remixed for broadcast. This high energy, aggressive funk/hip hop groove faces off with cocky attitude, spiked with Brazilian berimbau and vintage, turntable-spun horn section stabs. Filthy funk bass breaks away in a big beat/Block Rockin’ bridge, and plays dirty with a tripped-out samba bateria breakdown.

Conversa Fiada (Talkin' Trash)

This is a studio remix of the Main Menu theme from the Pelé app, a rousing hymn to the gods of Brazilian futbol. The sadium crowd sounds and huge crowd vocal from the video game mix have been removed, here the ensemble performs in an intimate space with less reverb.

Maracanã Samba Anthem (Studio Mix)

High energy funk/hip hop/world groove with a taunting melodic hook. Originally produced for Pele: Soccer Legend, a mobile soccer game app featuring the Brazilian soccer star. Cal Reichenbach produces eclectic music for film, TV, and video games. An accomplished guitarist and composer, Cal specializes in emotionally dynamic, rhythmically compelling scores that enhance visual action and propel narrative flow. His work spans a broad range of genres including rock, funk, jazz, afrobeat, Brazilian, orchestral, electronic, and world groove. Cal plays an array of guitar styles as well as bass, mandolin, ukulele, and guembri (Morroccan/Gnawa bass lute) in his productions.

Areas of scoring expertise include show open themes, emulations of any given reference track/musical genre/era, and the integration of ethnic music styles from any desired corner of the world. Tongue-in-cheek musical satire is another CalZone specialty: ironic cover arrangements, over-the-top genre parodies, and other feats of comedic scoring--from subtly sardonic to outrageously hyperbolic--are served with extra relish.

After a decade of touring, recording with, and producing an array of rock, funk, and jazz bands including the award winning Bay Area afrobeat ensembles ALBINO! and Aphrodesia, Cal earned an MFA in music production for visual media at Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
