Following his much-acclaimed full-length „The Predicting Machine“ (KOMPAKT 267 CD 102) and a slew of pop-infused 12“ singles - „We Can Pretend“ (KOMPAKT 286) and „Somewhere“ (KOMPAKT 264) -, LA-based synth mastermind JOHN TEJADA returns with new album SIGNS UNDER TEST: comprised of all-new material, this latest effort sees the studio wizard digging deeper into his modules, unearthing particularly dreamy tracks that rank among John's most accomplished work to date.

From the get-go, SIGNS UNDER TEST presents itself as a whole new ball of wax, reaching even further into the depths of JOHN TEJADA's hot-wired synth machinery, while cranking up the already stunning levels of musicality on display in his oeuvre. Opener TWO 0 ONE serves as a prime example for the sonic aplomb in place, thanks to its beautifully rendered melodies and finely tuned textures – a perfect storm made of cosy melancholy and celestial bliss. This expertly wrought piece serves as a particularly strong entry point for the album, setting the bar high for its successors.

An unabashedly brilliant listen, the album continues its thrilling journey with existential bleepfest Y 0 WHY and the bass-heavy BEACHT, followed by the intricately arpeggiated R.U.R. and brooding electronica vignette VAALBARA. The second part is ringed in by the undulating CRYPTOCHROME - another proof for JOHN TEJADA's uncanny ability to craft tracks that operate as distinguished bouncers as well as introspective meditations. The deliberate vivacity of connecting cuts RUBRIC and PENUMBRA only confirms the growing suspicion that this might be a timeless masterpiece we're dealing with.

As gorgeous as it sounds, texture isn't the only star here: a surprisingly diverse set of rhythm patterns suffuses the mesmerizing synth licks - take for example the multilayered ENDORPHINS effortlessly switching between straight techno stylings and vintage breakbeat ornaments. Meanwhile, electronic landscape painting MEADOW purrs away on its road to redemption, priming the listener for closing cut HEAVE IN SIGHT, an atmospherically rich composition that marries abstract storytelling with a flurry of reversed synth sounds.

„There's a bit more dreamy tape wobble going on throughout“, says the producer about his latest effort, „as I’ve gone quite analog tape with my delays and patches - on the verge of actually being broken, which gives them a nice character.“ It also might explain the air of intimacy surrounding the album - a quite personal listening experience taking the listener up close with its details and idiosyncracies, „maybe even more than before, as I’ve tried to cut out distractions and really focus on the production.“
The result is a record that is not meant to be trendy, even though it’s a product of analog hardware connoisseurship: „Everything is built from the ground up using hardware synths - mostly analog, but that’s a bit annoying to say nowadays. It’s not a record that fits in with any current stuff, but something that hopefully holds up as it ages. Something that hopefully reveals more on repeated listens.“ In our humble opinion, this mission has been more than accomplished with SIGNS UNDER TEST.

Sure Thing welcomes the Warsaw-based, Ukrainian artist Space Biology to the label, who delivers an elegant and enigmatic two-tracker that blurs the boundaries between the organic and the incorporeal, rendering phantoms into illusive sonic ephemera. Two remixes from Thailand’s Sunju Hargun and Sweden’s Evigt Mörker complete the vision, reconfiguring each original track in masterful and signature style and bringing new energies to focus.

Cio D’Or hardly requires an introduction, having long stood as both a pillar of our scene and a source of inspiration for so many. Over the course of her singular and decades-spanning career, the Cologne-based artist has cultivated a universe of sound entirely her own, immediately recognizable yet endlessly evolving much like the work of her contemporaries and collaborators Mike Parker and Donato Dozzy. To experience Cio’s music is to follow a throughline that traces the complex history of contemporary techno in a single gesture, compelled by the vast unknown and the primordial familiar in equal measure. Recalling the blurred realism of Richter’s photo-paintings or the timeless intricacy of Bach’s fugues, Cio’s self-contained sonic world delicately reframes our own precious lifecycle, a reflection revealed through its elegant and subtractive minimalism.

In collaboration with our friends at Mostra, I’m honored to share a selection from Cio D’Or’s set performed at this year’s edition of the Barcelona-based festival, a sublime triumph from a scholar of sound.

No matter the style, no matter the genre, what truly matters is authenticity, love, and the melting pot of influences. I don’t care about psytrance, I don’t care about techno. What I care about is not taking things too seriously, spreading love around me, and raving together as one.

Thank you @val_vashar for bringing me to the beautiful Swamp Stage at Momento Demento, and for giving me the chance to play at such a magical moment in the night.

I am deeply happy to share with you this recording of a live set I crafted especially for that occasion. It feels like the culmination of many years of work, and I was more than grateful to experience it alongside so many friends at my favorite festival ever <3

Our next VA compilation pushes deeper into the exploratory world of Pressure Dome, presenting another collection of forward-facing cuts that straddle introspection and dancefloor energy. Across ten tracks, familiar names and new collaborators stretch the label’s sonic identity into fresh terrain equally suited for immersive listening as for club catharsis.

Opening the release, Caldera & Yushh combine again with “Bubbletrain” a minimal trip round the swamp with momentum is carried by cavernous space and effervescing textures. Breaka & Yushh follow with “Betta With U”, a fluorescent downtempo beauty that tugs on the heart. On “The Grass”, Harry Rodger & Yushh pair lush atmospheres with contradictory shades of beauty and melancholy.

Piezo & Yushh arpeggiated melodies weave through an intricately designed world. Stones Taro & Breaka continue to twist things up on “Flies In The Kitchen” as warped vocals and warm wubs ride over dancehall rythmns and swampy textures. SCG & Dubrunner’s “Building Farm” bring a heady fusion of dubwise stabs and downtempo propulsion on their second outing together. 

On “Cheeky V”, Gramcy & MLE provide one of the compilation’s most immediate club weapons. Stripped-back, precise, and primed for a wiggle. Dubrunner & Yushh link up on “Trash Panda”, a playful yet fierce construction, where skipping acid lines and lush pads meet in off-kilter harmony.

Closing out the release, Roy Mills & Yushh’s “ZzZ” drifts into dreamier territory with warm vocal chops and weightless breaks, before Forever & Human Resources bring things to an intricate, thoughtful conclusion on “What Kind Of Bird Is This” a deep weave of chords and breaks that leaves the compilation in contemplative flight

“This set was recorded live 5-7pm, Saturday evening at Pe:rsona, 2025. The seemingly last dry-ish stretch and set of wild (weather) weekend, sunshowers made way for glistening droplets to  sparkle through the shade sails and lay foundation for me to weave between deeper percussive cuts and shiny crystalline daytime techno.”

Pjenné is a Naarm/Melbourne-based DJ, radio broadcaster, curator and label manager. Her musical identity is shaped by the expansive, psychedelic soundscapes of the southern bush, an influence that permeates her trance-inducing, progressive, and hypnotic selections.

Pjenné’s sets are characterised by deep-digging selections and an impeccable narrative craft, both of which are on full display in this masterfully executed recording. Tune in now for two hours of deep, lush afternoon techno daydreams.
