This sonata is about the struggle one faces when doubt comes into close friendships. The first movement shows the joy that fellowship and companionship can bring, even if the dark thoughts come in, but not actually confiding in your friends. The second movement is the sorrow and panic that comes from isolating yourself. The third movement is about the paranoia that sets in when starting new friendships after isolating yourself for so long. The fourth and final movement is about reconciling with your old friend, understanding that things will be better but not the same as before.
