Calela “The Singer” a sultry dynamic songstress delivering her musical and vocal prose through soulful lyrics of empowerment and inspiration as she shares her personal experience of overcoming life and living. Showcasing the fruit of her first debut album “Confident” and the individual songs of her upcoming album, “Keep It Moving” Calela has performed live in many large venues throughout St. Louis area, including Café’ Soul. Calela likens her music to that of Brandy. Including in her musical repertoire are her musical video’s “Addicted” and “Keep It Moving’.

Calela Pernell, born in St. Louis, MO in November 19, 1985 to musically talented parents Larry (aspired artist) and Nancy Moody, began to sing at age 5 just like her mom. At the age of 16, she faced the tragic loss of her mother. In her junior year in high school she won first place singing, “I won’t cry” a song she composed and dedicated this to her mother. Her teachers and classmates were in awe as they experienced the essence of Calela “The Singer”.

Calela’s music is one of raw genuineness as she captures her continual progression of developing her outlook on life. Today, she is committed to ensuring that her audience both men and women can groove to her expressive pieces and use her messages as tools in their individual growth.

As Calela continues to live through her music, she takes pride in watching her daughter Harmony; born June 2, 2006, develop into a little songstress and diva as she aspires to perform. Calela continues to write her songs and plays piano by ear. In Calela’s words, “When I sing, it takes me to another place. It’s my therapy. I know people need to hear what I have to say.” As for those whom have experienced her in public or private celebrations, all can attest to her ability to move one to their feet and provoke thought in their hearts and minds.
