One of the most naturally talented, most frustrating and most degenerate dudes I ever known writes the most amazing songs and never forgets to remind you about them by waking you up at 5am playing them on his un-tuned banjo.  Imagine a train hobo, a punk rock kid, and a country bumpkin, mix in the town drunk and a liberal amount of computer-chair commando and wanna-be erff daddy and voila!  Cooter Dinkins.

With slurred, growled and lisping lines, half-drunk caterwauling vocal harmonies, and fuge-like banjo pickin', this boy has everything together but his head. 
A wonderful performer but a shite recording artist, this is the only song we actually got to fully record and realize as it was next to impossible to get a good take from him due to nerves or too much of ol grandad's mash; there was only a window of about an hour......but regardless, ALL of his songs are so amazing to me, concisely conveying the intended emotion and bringing that back every time he plays. Undeniable. Oozing blues by way of gutter-folk-punk-gypsy-newgrass-alt-country-trashcan-americana stylies.

 I miss him, but not dearly....maybe enough to call him and ask how many teeth he has left in his head....

Basically a churched-up scratch track recorded haphazardly in a day and a half after a 3 day long drug Bender.... his first attempt at recording any of his wonderful songs. 

The best songs tell a story in under 4 minutes with the least amount of words possible. It sounds easy and is, in fact, at first, but it's quite difficult to put the right words in the correct order. Not unlike another friend and artist, Cody Dawkins, Daoskie has an inane ability to not only tell a story but convey the proper emotional attachment to those words. 

Teaching talented musicians and songwriters the recording process is somewhat difficult and at times tedious. It's not like picking up your guitar and just going for it, you have to concentrate on your performance as well. Listening to a click track in headphones, re-recording takes, striving for perfection, and me gently and sometimes coarsely guiding the process along, making them redo an otherwise good take and reminding them that we don't rehearse mistakes.... becomes someone overwhelming and you can lose a lot of cheese in the recording. considering we were up for 3 days and it was recorded in a haunted tool shed, I think my man did a great job and I can't wait to rerecord this song along with his others. 

The subject matter of the song is also a rather poignant for our time. we choose to run and hide in plain sight from our problems and the issues that we face as a society. Some of us also choose to blindly trust in our community leaders such as police, politicians, and doctors which, as far as I have seen, never really works out for anyone but them.

Strange Things Happen in the wee hours of the morning. Pulling another over nighter, enjoying the peace.
Just got over what may have been a covid case, I am not sure, don't really care at this point. My voice is returning and I am making music.
