The latest house duo to emerge from the Parisian underground bid us bonjour with this stellar debut on Dialect, fusing retroist 80s leanings with brain mulching techno voodoo. Title track ‘Scandale’ and ‘Lame De Fond’ share the same pulsing sequenced heart, transplanted from Carpenter soundtracks and Italo disco classics and then zapped with a thousand volts of warped, detuned and malfunctioning synthesizer electricity. ‘El Topo’ replaces the bristling sequences with a spiky post punk snarl courtesy of live guitars, bass and organ (a la Suicide no less) but retains the twisted electronics for a woozy half time experiment in dancefloor psychedelia. Essential for fans of Joakim, Ivan Smagghe and early Gesaffelstein productions.

Thunder Tillman is a cosmic vagabond who travels through space and time accompanied by his personal shaman. Together, as if having fallen to Earth, their mission is to recreate the music of their estranged home, reuniting with their brothers and sisters through an exquisite form of storytelling. While Western music may have degenerated over the past 65 years, troopers such as Thunder Tillman continue to drill down toward an elusive core, searching for something holy while never bastardizing their art with insincere advents of technology or convenience—as is apparent throughout their immaculate analogue production on this ESP Institute debut, Jaguar Mirror. Comparisons to genres like Krautrock are predictable, however we feel these four songs are so heavily narrative and wildly visceral that attempting to categorize the music would be a disservice to your imagination. We implore you to lay back in a nice stereo environment and absorb the purity of Thunder Tillman’s endeavor—appreciate their command of melody, composition, spectrum, magic… and try to recall the last time you chanced upon something truly different.

Sting of Battle is the firs release from the artist collective Caligola.

Caligola is a group of artists spanning many different art forms. A fellowship of creative people from all over the world who creates art together with no limits or boundaries where diversity, passion, lust equality and open mindness are core elements.

On this project, the album Back To Earth, the music is created by Caligola members Gustaf Norén and Björn Dixgård from Mando Diao, Salla and Masse from the Salazar Brothers alongside musicians like jazz artists Per ”Ruskträsk” Johanson and Nils Janson, popstar Agnes, DJ Paul Van Dyk, Oskar Blonde, the legendary rasta Natty Silver, gospel diva La Gaylia Fraizer and 60’s legends Hansson and Karlsson. Also everything that comes with the music; artwork, photography, live show, videos, clothes etc is collaborations or creations done by Caligola members. Some known, some unknown. 

Caligola is creativity; creativity is passion, and passion is lust. Caligola is not afraid to explore the darkness, the lustful, the animalistic, as it is all part of humanity and nature. Caligola is also celebration, the culmination of the freedom of expression. In order to accomplish that we have one more core belief that we follow: striving towards letting go of your ego.
