Liam Lakeway Ralph is one of those joyously unclassifiable artists. One minute he’s slapping us with slithering, snake-like D&B on labels like Unchained, the next he’s tearing apart our souls with heavily emotional grime-inspired beats on Sweet Box, the next he’s shredding up the breaks with junglist switches on Cocobolo. And that’s just this year alone.

Liam Lakeway Ralph is also one of those one of those scarily lucky cats… One minute he was left floundering from a pretty brutal label closure (Med School RIP), the next was faced with complete rave shutdown (Covid RIP), the next he was suffering bleeding on the brain and seizures with doctors throwing around scary words like tumor!

For a while it was one of the most terrifying situations you can imagine. Fortunately he’s fully recovered, back in good health and more inspired than he’s been in many years. Everything you hear on this mix is the sound of a man who isn’t just back on his A-game, but on another entire cosmos of inspiration and appreciation.

N.E.GIRL took the stage at Dubby’s launch party with a lethal 30-minute DJ set that’s equal parts dark, soulful, and sub-bass driven. Known for her multi-genre bass style, N.E.GIRL blends syncopated rhythms, jungle vibes, and techno-infused beats that keep the energy high.

For this set, she used Dubby as a send/return effect, routed out of the send of an XDJ-XZ and back into a free channel on the mixer. N.E.GIRL perfectly fused the vibe and intention of the King Dubby Delay—a modern homage to the legendary tape delays of 1970s dub—with her beautiful and powerful performance. The delay added warmth and unpredictability, capturing the essence of vintage dub while enhancing the dynamic energy of her set.

With roots in the UK underground and global club scenes, her sets for Keep Hush, Rupture, and HÖR Berlin have made her a force behind the decks and a community builder offstage. This set at RUST for the Dubby Launch Party showcases her powerful sound, perfectly matching the spirit of creativity and collaboration that Dubby stands for.

I've always been a massive fan of Boards of Canada, if its not obvious already!  10-11 years ago I stumbled upon a bootleg recording of one of their extremely rare live performances at the Warp 10 Birthday party in 1999.  The closing tune at this show has always remained a mystery to me.  As far as I know it has no title and has never been released.  It's quite possibly one of my favorite things they have done and really is a shame it never came out. Fast forward to Summer 2012...  Since I am a huge nerd I decided to take this bootleg recording and re-produce it for fun.  Using the recording I laid new drums over the existing drum patterns (almost 100% accurate to original), replayed some synth parts and the bassline.  The only thing I didn't try to re-create was the original vocoder parts and some random samples so I used the bootleg recording for that.  I was tempted to make a shorter 4-5 minute version but I figured I should preserve the piece in its intended length (although the length was most likely due to it being a live jam).

Downloads limited to 100 (sorry I still haven't upgraded my account).  I do not claim rights to the original nor do I intend to ever sell this.  Not sure if I'm violating anything or not with Soundcloud so grab it quick!
