I took several of stellarartwars pieces, but didn't even begin to scratch the surface of all the available material there.

I took the idea presented for the secret mixter, including the short passage from Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself," and expanded upon the idea, with the "american" or USA-ian overlay, including sit-com-like theme music, spy-movie music, newscasters, trumpets and jazz singing and scatting over the driving, modal bass line.

As America steeps in the juices of its summer 2013 -- a summer of blood, summer of outted secrets, summer of corrupt, monochromatic wheat from sea to greasy sea -- we march, mad and naked.

Once, I found a website that posted the individual tracks to some of the tunes on the breakthrough album, "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts," by Brian Eno and David Byrne. All these years later, I am finally able to deliver a remix of one of my favorite pieces on the album.

I thought I’d travel down an imaginary road with a spice caravan.

Besides CSoul guitar and synth stems, I worked with a recording of rooks from the old “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” files the were made available online from Brian Eno at one time (from Help Me Somebody), plus I also used audio from xserra of freesound (161756 balkan double flute and 182731 orchestra tetouan asmir).

Spice Road

The title of colab’s track, “Dark Corners in Small Houses” was the inspiration of the way the song went and how I wanted to take things.

According to Wikipedia, 

Mushishi (Japanese: 蟲師?) is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Urushibara. … The story features ubiquitous creatures called Mushi (蟲?) that often display what appear as supernatural powers. It is implied that there are many more lifeforms more primitive than “normal” living things such as animals, plants, fungi and bacteria, and Mushi is the most primitive of all. Due to their ethereal nature most humans are incapable of perceiving Mushi and are oblivious to their existence, but there are a few who possess the ability to see and interact with Mushi. … 

So like a supernatural chant taking hold, the mushishi build up in rooms and houses that are completely closed — like this dark corner in the small house.

Originally, I had planned to write lyrics and do some vocals, but the first session of work I did on this piece caused a severe case of musical ear syndrome and I was brought down pretty hard by it. Trying to work on it a second time has produced nearly the same problem — so I had to stop. 

I really need to find an exit strategy from the loop.

But it was grand to be paired with colab, whom was one of the first mixters I had worked with when I started at ccmixter in 2006. 

Can’t wait to celebrate the next ten years.

An original gospel tune waiting for words. The chorus is "And the power of his love and the glory of his name ... well ... it washes over me and I will never be the same. Jesus loves me."

Perfect Love (Instrumental)

When I wrote this tune, I had intended it to be played by the bluegrass band I had been in, Rock Salt & Nails. I could hear banjos and mandolins playing those power chords.

This song has been remixed a few times, with one particular mix by Daniel Brandell being a popular jazz and blues tune on www.uvumi.com. This is the unplugged, original recording from 2002 at Dead Horse Studio in Taos New Mexico.
