From the unlikely locale of central Tennessee, a young talent known as Sterfry emerges with a fresh take on the sounds that make up the musical DNA of Darker Than Wax, distilled into six tracks for his label debut - ‘Life pt.1’. The 23 year old producer and saxophonist fluidly traverses the realms of jazz, soul, house, and beat, freed from the structural restraints of traditional dance music - ‘Life pt.1’ is all about making music that comes naturally, music straight from the heart. This ethos can be heard throughout the release, as blistering saxophone and piano performances merge effortlessly with smooth synths and drum machines. On ‘Wayward1’, the artist enlists his sister’s talents on the vocal, adding another layer of honesty to the down-to-earth collection of tracks. ‘Life pt.1’ resonates equally well in personal listening as it does with an open-minded dance floor - a reflection of the young producer’s personal growth and musical depth.

Soul is one of the most definitively ambiguous, yet highly pertinent, genres in music. But soul still permeates the music that we come across everyday–often disguised by samples, distant influences, and additional production. One artist who upholds the original principles of soul is Too Much. While many may describe his music as electronic with R&B and hip hop influences, the core of all his creations come from his passion for classic soul.

He's back with "Amethyst", an haunting album in collaboration with five amazing singers. Though heavy with electronic production, this masterpiece showcases Too Much true love for soul. We were thrown into a kaleidoscopic vocal telling.
