Artist: Andy Green [Verdant Recordings / Vertex ]

Auditory journey number 18 to the musical Frontier is piloted by our good friend and musical aficionado , Verdant Recordings chief groundsman - Andy Green.   

Andy has already featured on one Dub Explorations show and two different Quadrasphere mixes. As well as playing live for us at our Eastern Bloc events,  so we thought it was due time he stepped up and presented his Frontier.

  As far as musical compatibility goes, Andy aligns with ourselves as well as anybody we know. His depth of knowledge in terms of the deeper shades of house and Techno is second to none. A long time collector and even longer time raver, he has spent years really refining his tastes and it shows across all of his musical output. Everything he touches turns to Green (GOLD). He has a huge variety of mixes and videos on his socials  but all of them are done with a touch of class. Nothing ever feels hurried out of place, instead his contributions to this scene of ours and measured and well thought out.

  In terms of his label - Verdant, again it’s a classy affair. From the first release back in 2016, through to the most recent, every EP is packed with musical goodness. Very much a case of all killer no filler. Combined with constantly interesting and evolving Artworks, it’s a match made in heaven.   

As for this submission to the Frontier, Andy once again produces the goods. Just over two hours of all realms of deepness, touching on house techno and every obscurity in-between.   

We are blessed to be able to call Andy our friend and thank him for all of our collaborations over the years, here’s to many more.

For Viscera 140, our close friend Sarahtonin joins the series with a live recording from Corsica Studios, captured in May 2025. Expect trippy acid and rolling grooves for a late night dancefloor!

"Sarahtonin, as her name suggests, makes you feel good. With a knack for finding mood-lifting tracks that make people want to dance, she has a well-deserved reputation for filling floors.

She’s been listening to and mentally cataloguing music all her life and has developed both a broad taste and an encyclopaedic knowledge which allows her to play across time and genre to craft the best vibe for any situation – whether that’s Wednesday afternoon radio on Do!! You!!! alongside Charlie Bones, the legendary Low Life parties of Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, dark smokey clubs in the small hours, or sweaty festival tents on summer afternoons.

Her unshazamable DjHistory mystery mix demonstrates the depth of her collection, which spans rare house and disco cuts, driving chuggy groovers, soul with sexy vocals, acid, electronica, techno, reggae and UKG.

Sarah’s weekly radio show on Do!! You!!! has a dedicated following around the world and inspires chatroom comments like “Goooooosebumpssss”, “I’m out of ‘woi’” and “gonna learn to make a bot that just posts ‘chune’ every time Sarah starts a new track”. She’s hosted guests including Richard Sen, Scarlett O’Malley, Chris Coco, Running Hot and Rosie Ama. As well as her regular show, she contributes guest mixes to stations including NTS, Refuge Worldwide, Soho Radio, Mutant Radio and Voices. And she’s made a Chill Out Tent mix for Apple Music.

A Low Life resident since 2023, Sarah delivers funky sets to faithfuls and newcomers at London institution Corsica Studios, injecting fresh energy into this long-running and much loved party. In 2024, she graced the celebrated Gala festival, filling the affectionately dubbed Wizard’s Hat with love, smiles, cheers and tears. Other notable festival performances include Glastonbury, Love International, Watching Trees and Wildwood. 

Always full of fun, always with a cheeky grin. Get your dose. It’s like a hug, with tunes."

These are some of the first records that pulled me out of French house and into the deeper side of electronic music: Shari Vari, Join in the Chant, What Time Is Love?, early I-F and Parallax Corporation, Alden Tyrell, Legowelt, Carretta, Agoria, and later the Gesloten Cirkel and Hacker cuts. Played in chronological order, they trace a clear line from early proto-techno and EBM into The Hague’s electro machinery and the darker European sound that came after it. I haven’t heard a lot of these in years, so the show is a way of going back to where it started, before jumping forward to the present with Blawan – WFT to close it out.

Post-punk provocateur Autumns has been catapulting angular weapons over the ramparts since 2014…

Carving out a fierce reputation across labels like Downwards, Opal Tapes, iDEAL Recordings and DKA Records. Christian Donaghey’s relentless live show has seen him tour worldwide alongside Veronica Vasicka, Silent Servant, and Wire, delivering workouts that pummel those lower frequencies into submission.

 
Now, as he joins Ransom Note with the ferocious EP ‘Through the Construction of Grace’ EP, the “lanky, ginger man from Derry” offers up a mix that captures his intuitive approach to music-making. Recorded in his bedroom, it’s a journey through the sounds that have shaped Autumns’ “awful attempts at ripping off every bit of music that I like” from DJ Hell & Alan Vega collaborations to deep Post-Punk in Dub territory.

It’s confusing, distorted vocals and atonal blasts that taste like marmalade, and moves with the scrappy resourcefulness of a raccoon.

Worry less. Listen intuitively.

Wir waren mal wieder bei Radio Blau und haben eine neue Ausgabe unseres New In Radios gehostet. Die Nummer 9 dieses Jahres bietet einen diversen Einblick in aktuelle Leipzig-Releases.

Nils und Jens haben dieses Mal allein die Sendung geschmissen. Der Free Dive bewegt sich mit einem musikalisch sehr breiten Profil zwischen Ambient, IDM, Techno und House, bevor wir im Deep Dive wirklich sehr deep in die dubbige Welt des Leipziger Labels Freund der Familie eintauchen. Regular readers of tQ might remember that our friends at MUTEK helpfully had someone handy with a tape recorder to capture Factory Floor's comeback set at the 2024 edition of the festival. Well, we're happy to report that they've done done the same again, this time with one of our favourite collaborative duos – James Holden and Wacław Zimpel. The intense, beautiful and burbling set, with modular synths and saxophone dancing in all the bright ecstasy of a winter mountain stream, can be listened to on our Soundcloud below.  " i remember i really enjoyed this one, it was the first show we'd had for a little while and felt quite flowy, a nice connected feeling," reflected James Holden, and his musical partner agrees: "I really loved it," Wacław Zimpel says, "it's always quite amazing to play again after longer break. Breaks gives a room for new ideas to grow spontaneously." They both praise preceding sets by Yu Su and Valentina Magaletti for setting "a great vibe at the venue," as Zimpeł puts it. It came on top of a fine stay in Montreal for the festival. "We immersed ourselves in the local cuisine – poutine – and then climbed the big hill. at the top a guy with a fluorescent cargo bike and a poodle in (also fluorescent) ankle warmers turned up, pumping 90s house out of a Bluetooth speaker. We felt like we'd completed Canada, achievement unlocked."
