Neue Welle Mix #8 - F.R. Fels

For mix number 19 in the PPRZ Podcast series, we have a mix from Vancouver's @dj-2button

dj_2button is a multi disciplinary artist, dj and record label owner of Weirdos inc. Records. He is known for his eclectic story telling style of djing, joining the dots and fusing genres such as, but not limited to: downtempo, ambient, psychedelic, leftfield techno, to new wave, EBM and house & disco.

Mix Description:
For my PPRZ mix I wanted to put out a mix that reflected a lot of the music that i've been playing in club sets. Most of my sets online are radio shows that reflect my tastes when i'm in listening mode, therefore sometimes these tracks are more catered to daytime listening, and have notes of balearic and downtempo.  I went quite techno in the start of this mix, it then drifted off into other weird territories, then back into techno, EBM etc, and so on.

Unless you've seen me live I don't think most people who've checked in online have heard me do this kind of set. I wanted to showcase what I do when there's a crowd in front of me at peak time. I get bored easily and try to challenge myself and put tracks together that I feel probably shouldn't go, or you wouldn't usually hear in a club. I love nothing more than none-dance tracks being used as tools in a sweaty club room. This mix is packed with moods, highs and lows, lots of wrong tempos and experimentation.

I winged the second hour completely as I just kept going. The mix mostly has a dark and psychedelic mood, but theres some moments of joy and trippy dubby stuff in there.

I did the mix in one take on a faulty djm850 mixer and 3 CDJS (you may here a few moments where the effects cut out lol). Few moments that are a little scrappy but I really like the mood - A one take felt like the move.

Julian is a Berlin-based DJ and founder of the label Sounds Over Seas. He first stepped behind the decks during his late teens at at highschool party and has been on a loveride journey ever since. The inspiration he takes from music are multidimensional and range from the obscure and free, to more straight forward and groovy. He is an advocate of vinyl culture always on the hunt for that long forgotten deep cut. His sets encompass a magnitude of sounds and moods, but soul is key. When producing he uses this same approach, aiming to create something artisticaly unique with the means at hand. Next to his label duties, he is heavily involved at Open Tiny Records and also a resident at the Schimmer Records Collective.

Originally from The USA, Manolo started to learn how to spin records when living in Boston, MA. He left New York City to move to Germany in 2018. He is heavily influenced by the foundations of Black American music while also being exposed to various music from the rest of the globe especially Latin and African Music as well as Reggae. Collecting records since a teenager, his eclectic taste has allowed him to be a versatile DJ and selector across various genres and deep cuts. Based in Berlin, Germany he has become a professionally trained sound engineer, while producing and playing records throughout Germany and Europe.

This is a live recording of the special edition of AMBO CLUB, live from The Lubber Fiend during it's 2nd Birthday weekend. Ambo Club is a semi-regular, chilled out, low-no-tempo club night prioritising downtempo, ambient, with total freeform and open minded approach to DJing. The DJ sits on a sofa in the middle of the haze filled, candle lit room and the audience is invited to get comfortable and bask in the freak zone. 

This time, we invited Operator Radio from Rotterdam to come out and melt with us. The whole 7+ hours was streamed via both stations and is now here for you to enjoy in it's entirety.
