Another fortnight of TropiCaldo Sonoro arrived. We traveled to the state of Minas Gerais in search of the new guest of this edition, but the feeling when listening to the first minutes of this mix is ​​of traveling across the African continent, feeling the richness of the beats and grooves that inspired all the world musical aesthetic, as we know it today.

Our guest is a young record collector, curious about music and who keeps focus on telling the story of his sets through the sound of black music. For this edition is an honor to invite Paulo Mendonça, of artistic name Kabulô. 

“The silence bothers me, I prefer the sound. Be it calm or aggressive, I like some noise. I see in music an opportunity to know the history of my people and recognize myself in that history.

When I'm listening to something, I always think about the privilege of still being able to listen. Since I was a child I have carefully admired this practice and that's why I speak little; I prefer to listen to others, even though it is a great irony to have been born partially deaf (in one ear).

Graduated in Graphic Design, I seek the dialogue between design and the history of black people, in this way I build critical thinking about the imagery that builds blackness. 

With CONNECTION AFRICA, I can sew a narrative line where it is possible to discuss ancestry, valorization of African music, the history of a people, its reflections and its similarities with the stories of their children, the bodies of the diasporas.

This mixtape is a synthesis of my investigations into African music. I believe it is possible to travel and discover cultures with your eyes closed, letting yourself be understood through the rhythm. In this way, this mixtape is a vessel heading for the African continent where I invite you to get to know from Nigerian hip hop to South African kwaito.”

Chegou mais uma quinzena de TropiCaldo Sonoro. Viajamos até Minas Gerais atrás do novo convidado dessa edição, mas a sensação ao escutar os primeiros minutos desse mix é de viajar pelo continente africano, sentindo as riquezas das batidas e grooves que inspiraram toda estética musical mundial que conhecemos hoje em dia. 

Nosso convidado é um jovem colecionador de discos, curioso sobre a música e que mantem o foco em contar a história de seus sets através da música negra. Para essa edição é um honra convidar Paulo Mendonça, de nome artístico Kabulô. 

“O silêncio me incomoda, prefiro que o som seja ele calmo ou agressivo mas que faça algum barulho.  Enxergo na música uma oportunidade de conhecer a história do meu povo e me reconhecer nessa história.

Quando estou escutando algo sempre penso no privilégio que ainda é poder ouvir, desde criança admiro com cuidado essa prática e por isso falo pouco, prefiro escutar o outro ainda que seja uma grande ironia ter nascido surdo parcialmente (de um ouvido).

Formado em Design Gráfico, procuro o dialogo entre design e a história do povo negro, dessa forma construo um pensamento critico acerca das imagéticas que constroem a negritude.

Com CONEXÃO AFRICA, consigo costurar uma linha narrativa onde é possível discutir ancestralidade, valorização da música africana, a história de um povo, seus reflexos e suas semelhanças com as histórias de seus filhos, os corpos das diásporas.

Essa mixtape é uma síntese das minhas investigações em música africana. Acredito que é possível viajar e conhecer culturas com os olhos fechados se deixando compreender através do ritmo, dessa forma essa mixtape é uma embarcação rumo ao continente africano onde convido a conhecerem desde o hip hop nigeriano ao kwaito sul africano.”
