Just as the sun finally arrives, so does the long awaited Dub Fx - ‘Theory of Harmony: Remixes’ album on Audioporn Records, featuring reworks of Dub Fx’s hit album by some of bass music’s biggest names, including Krafty Kuts, Xilent, Gaudi, BCee & Villem, Shimon, High Maintenance, Makoto, Spoonbill, Dreadzone, Random Movement, Dilemn, James Marvel & Hypoxia, Champion, and many more.
 
‘Theory of Harmony: Remixes’ LP covers all bases, from killer-dance floor bangers to smooth summer rollers, Dub Fx’s soulful vocals combine perfectly with some of bass music’s biggest and brightest talents. The remixes are receiving radio support from the likes of DJ Target on BBC Radio 1, Sian Anderson on 1Xtra, Joe Ford and Charlie Tee on Kiss FM, and Stamina on Rinse FM the album’s release coincides with Dub FX’s stunning new live show, which he will unleash upon UK audiences as part of his first comprehensive national UK tour, proudly presented by bass culture’s biggest tastemakers, UKF.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. And after dominating the Beatport Top 100 with their most recent single ‘A Day That Never Comes / Snakes & Ladders’, they won’t be applying the brakes anytime soon, especially in the lead up to their greatly anticipated second album on the Ram imprint.

Back on vocal duties, Calyx demonstrates the pair’s multi-dimensional approach to beat making. With plucky percussion relaying you through bouncing subs and a drivingly solid bassline, it defines their vast repertoire of style. They’re not scared to dip into unfamiliar territories, with Calyx’s cool vocals sitting on top of lulling guitar rhythms to provide the first part of a diverse and brilliantly crafted record. 

With an album laying just out of reach, each single is bringing us closer and closer to the inevitable. All four tracks prove their still a formidable force to be reckoned with; this LP will only emphasise that fact.

Since Document One stormed onto Technique's roster, this production duo have set about marking out their very own niche in the D&B spectrum. Songwriters' musicality and an appreciation for multiple genres, while still keeping focus firmly on the dancefloor, makes for a powerful combination. Now, with this latest release, they're back to consolidate their status and draw together some more threads in their ongoing multi-form musical narrative.

“I Got a Fever” wastes no time in laying out the formula. A swing-time low-end perforates smoky jazz club ambience, with loose percussion holding down the beat. The bass morphs between upright plucks and synthetic sweeps to neatly underline Document One's approach of providing a slick modern twist on foundation sounds. As the track builds, a vocal sample signals its time for the bass and drum to tighten up and drop into a cowbell-led funkstepping ride. This is summer music, as much about fun and partying with a smile on your face as it is about serious musicianship.

Then there's a whole different take on the summertime vibe for “Follow Me”. Ethereal vocals float over crisp and punchy drums, accompanied by long liquid bass tones, delicate trumpet and laid-back keys. It's a gentle soulful roller... But then it's suddenly not that at all. Document One puncture the atmosphere like a sharp intake of breath and kick us with a boot made from filthy bass. And now the light and floating sounds from before just serve to accentuate the heavyweight drive of the rave engine this tune has become. When the dancefloor needs a kickstart, here's one to draw for.

So, Document One have proved once again that they not only understand the palette of sounds and textures offered by jazz, funk and soul, but they're also willing and able to twist them into their own paradigm. They make music to make musicians nod in appreciation, but to make everyone else rave hard.
