*BEHIND THE MUSIC* 

This is a song about letting go of a bad relationship. The track artwork hopefully conveys the message. 

I started the song by just messing with the chord progression of D, B minor, Gmaj7, and A7. 

I just really liked the sound and vibe of this progression. 

I then just started humming and singing to myself. 

I've had this line in my head for a few years that are stuck with, "it's not okay". So I freestyled lines that all rhymed with okay: away, day, cray, may, way. 

Then when you get to the last line of the chorus -- I'll Just Dump You -- the rhyming stops. I hoped this would be a bit jarring and help the lyric hit harder.

I then freestyled the second verse after I got the first verse and second chorus down. 

The chords gave me a Latin feel, so I tried to make the high hat and snare to match. I then added a bongos sample from Garageband. The bass is all digital from Garageband and a midi keyboard. 

I had messed around with a bunch of guitar parts for the outro and kind of threw everything in. I really like the opening guitar line of the outro at 1:48, which was inspired by learning the bass this past year. The lick just followers the root, 3rd, and 5th for each chord in the progression: D, B minor, G, A7.

Cameron makes guitar-based music, not only because it is the best instrument, but because it's the only instrument he can play with much skill.

Listening to The Beach Boys and The Beatles in his mom’s maroon minivan was the start of his love for music. As a teen, he bought his first CD, Nelly’s debut classic “Country Grammar” and was a hip hop lover. 

That all changed when he took a classical guitar class sophomore year of high school, which led to him getting a Yamaha guitar and amp that Christmas and falling in love with Classic Rock. His love for guitar-based music was thus solidified.

Today he loves everything from Carly Rae Jepson, Lana Del Rey, and Dua Lipa, to Weezer, Vampire Weekend, and Wilco.
