2014 stands as a defining moment for the RAM Records imprint. The cold, sharp light of the full moon wrapped each of them in its bitter grasp, tendrils of the deepest anger and regret encircling them as the shadows from the dense branches of the grim forest of their surroundings. Their old friend lay prone at their feet, the gun that ended that precious spark of consciousness still smoking in Lenny’s hands, his weathered face cast down, cold eyes staring at the carnage of his making. Blood flowed darkly from the head wound, a growing treacle puddle reflecting the moon above in its metallic embrace, each of their faces around it mirrored darkly in that slowly expanding pool of their brother’s end. The curse that had escaped his lips as he realized the betrayal was seared into their ears, the final glance spiked through with heartbreak entwined in deepest hate burned into their retinas. But for all their regret, their patriarch had spoken, made himself clear… the family is violence, but it is not the twisted pleasures that he had chased, and the family line, when crossed – is the very end of consciousness.

Here was something wrong with his latest creation. It sat very still, staring with tense eyes at him in silence as he leant over the altar of his work. His instruments glinted with the reflected gold of the candle flames that lit his space, the cradle of life where he replanted embers of consciousness in the infertile grounds of the dead. Up until now they had stirred into reality with the confused motion of limbs, eyes rolling and hands moving desperately along the cracks of the floor and the edges of the doorway, seeking fervently a way out. But this one was different – her eyes had snapped sharply open, she sat upright, and since that moment her stillness tainted the room with a quiet malice. Her eyes followed him as he moved, inspecting his work beyond an arm’s length. The black pits of her pupils like twin gravity wells, cold tendrils reaching out and compelling him closer as though death’s hand brushed the back of his neck and whispered timeless truths with a whisper into his ear. He drew back, looking down at the dark blood on his hands as her eyes flicked over them. Reaching behind him, he grasped his chair, sitting down slowly, his legs trembling slightly before buckling beneath his weight. The oppression of her stare bore down upon him.

The relentless shuffle of MINDSCAPE's deadly REANIMATOR LP continues, as the ultimate power of Chapter II is unleashed on the EATBRAIN listener base. Bringing the next 4 tracks of what's turning out to be one of neurofunk's most solid albums, Mindscape's veteran experience shines through on each of the cuts, with his awareness of where the frontier of the genre lies sharpening the blades of his beautifully frenetic assault. Deep beneath the brooding waves in the Northern-most waters of the globe, the wreck listed heavily in the grip of the weighty current; guiding it’s infernal, slow descent with its cold touch. The void below awaited, the edge of the abyss mere meters ahead. A shimmering and terrible form emerged from the dark turquoise periphery, vast and cruel-looking, its tentacles unfurled against the decaying frame of the ship. Tens of suckers reached out with their voluptuous rings, gently brushing against the surface, seeking a way in. It could sense the death here, the swollen corpses within proffering the rich scent of succulent flesh – particles of those who once lived slipping between the planks and out into the ocean. It hungered… the heavy need to consume, driving it forward more quickly as it wrapped itself around the sailors’ tomb. A tentacle slipped through a porthole in the gloom, its faceteeth gnashing in anticipation, chattering cruelly and nervously. It slipped inside the black interior, appendages reaching in all directions for the meat it craved. It found the first of the floating corpses in moments, curling itself around and lowering its beak upon the fragile skull, crushing it easily and inhaling the bloody water deeply. The OCTOPUS shuddered with pleasure as it reveled in its putrid meal, fading deeper within the darkness to hunt its next morsel.

The ever-evolving EATBRAIN imprint welcomes an exceptional and exciting fresh producer back to the fold, with the Dutch-born KOLT bringing his debut EP - OCTOPUS – into the appendages of the label. Following up his well-received initial track ‘Perforate’ on the ‘Divergence’ compilation, which also features on the EP, Eatbrain returns for more of this young creator’s fresh and exciting sound. Featuring 4 tracks of pure energetic mayhem, with an exceptional and pointed sound design ethic that straddles multiple sub-genres of drum and bass, the OCTOPUS EP delivers a unique and highly kinetic outlay with razor sharp edges. With such a significant first step as this, it’s almost certain that we’re likely to be hearing more from KOLT on EATBRAIN in the future.
