A longstanding artist within the dance music fraternity, Igal Magitman has continued to find himself at the leading edge of the underground house movement. Over 200 production credits adorn the Israeli's production portfolio including an array of releases for Proton Music that began in 2008. Remixes for Andre Sobota, Rick Pier O'Neil and Andrea Cassino have followed and Magitman now makes his solo EP debut with the twin-track "To the Mood and Back".

The title track is a beautifully arranged piece that revels in loquacious vocal cut and head-shaking bass groove. Evolving intelligently, a muted organ riff comes to the fore as a distorted vocal reprise appears in intermittent patterns. The full vocal makes its presence felt at the breakdown before "To the Mood and Back" picks up the pace once again in the second half. "Knock About" continues the smooth melodic narrative of its predecessor as a rolling percussive groove supplies dancefloor character. Free-flowing organ phrases and chopped up phrases create a perfectly syncopated melodic collage which comes to the fore at the breakdown before the funk-fuelled combination of rhythm and melody emerges once more in the third movement.

An artist with accolades, awards and unparalleled talent, Jamie Stevens has been at the forefront of the electronic music scene for two decades as founding member of Infusion and in solo guise. A regular on such esteemed imprints as Lost & Found, Bedrock and Selador, the Australian has caused a stir on Proton Music with his remixes of Rudy's "All Things Fade", in 2019, and Petar Dundov's "Nature of Nature" in late 2020. Creating a typically innovative offering, the Jamie Stevens remix revels in a powerful rhythmic foundation that rolls dynamically forward with echoes of the percussive flavour found in "Knock About". Building throughout, layers of sound create a constantly evolving dancefloor groove that makes elegant use of the chords prevalent in the original, while glorious spot effects and ambient sounds pan the stereo spectrum giving depth and space. The result is another creative masterpiece from the Jamie Stevens studio.

Owner of the rapidly growing Flug Lab imprint, Lisandro is a relatively new name to the underground dance scene. Music signed to such revered imprints as Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, a Proton Music debut saw an impressive reworking of Erdi Irmak's "Echoes in Time" in May 2020. Now returning, Lisandro has created a club-friendly vibe and rolling groove as he uses the central melodic themes from "To The Mood and Back" to dynamic effect. The vocal phrasing so prominent in the original makes a more considered play as it sits further back in the mix, revealed fully at the breakdown. Building into the second half, beats and melody combine sumptuously in the third movement to create a joyous reworking of Magitman's track.

Accompanied by Jamie Stevens and Lisandro, Magitman has created a convivial atmosphere "To the Mood and Back".

Coflo & Lee Wilson returns to Local Talk with a follow up to their single 'Fool For You'. Their new release 'Rainbows' is showcasing a duo that yet again brings some superb soulful house music that can not fail to ignite a floor.  

Coflo's warming, musically expansive house sound frequently offers nods to several genres but he manages to tie them all together brilliantly. Combined with Lee's vocals the duo is a force to be reckoned with.

The Backside Mix is a thrusting, bass-heavy bump channeling Yoruba's grandmaster Osunlade mixed with something Henrik Schwarz would produce in his prime. It's definitely made for the late afterhours in a club when there's sweat on the walls.  It's followed on the flip by the original mix which is an organic-sounding version without losing sight of the style and sophistication that are the hallmarks of Coflo's production.  

Yet another unique, masterful track, all crisp and mixed with muscular Motor City futurism

Michael Vater, better known in music circles as Phonique, has carved out a rich niche for himself in the crowded world of electronic music. Widely regarded as one of the nicest guys in the scene, Vater has come a long way from his humble beginnings in Cologne, fully establishing himself as both a father of the Berlin club scene and a much loved ambassador for house and electronic music all around the world. With way over 100 releases and his own boutique house label Ladies & Gentlemen, Phonique has taken his signature grooves all over the world - more than 50 countries at last count. With countless production and remix credits plus three full albums under his belt, 'Best Of Phonique' is a timely reminder of what makes this artist such a treasure, represented in 23 tracks. 

Long time collaborator Erlend Øye features twice as a guest vocalist - 'For the Time Being' and 'Casualties' both being essential reference points in Phonique's back catalogue. Originally released in 2005, 'For the Time Being' could be the blueprint for many of today's nu-disco producers, classic Vater - melancholic and uplifting at the same time. 

Another landmark collaboration in Vater's discography was with Ian Whitelaw, whose sublime vocals feature on 'Our Time Our Chance', 'Trouble' and 'You That I'm With'. Originally released on Phonique's first album 'Identification' in 2004, 'You That I'm With' is a gorgeous slice of electronic synth pop, while 'Our Time Our Chance' from 2010 is more focused on the deeper reaches of the dance floor, and was widely regarded as one of the tracks of that year. 'Trouble' is a beautifully relaxing and jazzy song with a swinging shuffle beat. Volker Meitz, a jazzy Piano-specialist and recording with Jazzanova, Sonar Kollektiv, Compost, K7 contributed the keyboards - including the dreamy solo.

Elsewhere Phonique continues to display his passion for collaboration with talented vocalists. 'Feel What You Want' highlights the divine sound of Rebecca while 'Endless Love' showcases Louie Austen. 

Phonique's deft touch for creating affecting and beautiful electronic pop music with strong links to the dance floor is fully in evidence on every track. 

Probably the most straight up dance floor track here is 'Divertimento' - a deep burner feat. Guti, with slight Latin swing to it - no doubt a result of Phonique's strong links to the underground scene in Brazil. 

Also included are 'Blindfolded' and 'Space Cruise' which Phonique recorded with Gui Boratto in Sao Paolo - a perfect fusion between Phonique‘s deepness and Gui Boratto‘s exceptional sound aesthetic.

Downtempo sweetener 'Amy’s Heart' contains lyrics by Ruben who was already featured on Phonique's 'Good Idea' album and made this beautiful comback on his third album 'Kissing Strangers'.

Furthermore recent and less recent tracks like 'Roses feat. Data MC and Marc Hype', 'Vincent Price', 'Baku', the 2010 version of 'The Passion' and Tiefschwarz's remix of 'The Red Dress' alongside the best EP tracks perfectly complement this best of collection representing the vast spectrum of Phonique’s creative output.

‚Time‘ from European trio Yves Murasca, Rosario Galati and Chasing Kurt gets a remix treatment from Outcross Records label boss Miguel Campbell, out on July 19th via Déepalma Records. 

Miguel Campbell’s rendition of 'Time' begins with tranquil notes and dreamy arpeggios before his signature bassline kicks in to join fluttering synth drones and soaring melodies, melting perfectly with the inimitable vocals from Chasing Kurt. All in all resulting in a brilliant addition to the package of mixes for Summer 2019 and abroad. The original was released earlier this year to great acclaim.
