In 1913 Stravinsky set a new benchmark for the use of dissonance and syncopation in Western Music with "The Rite of Spring", a musical journey following a Virgin Sacrifice dancing herself to death in a pagan ritual. 

In something of a similar vein here is a piece inspired by Stravinsky's collaborator, Nicholas Roerich, and his journey through the Altai mountains.

Altai

  Kullu, once known as Kul-anti-peetha - "the end of the habitable world", is the capital town of the Kullu District, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

  In this place, Kullu valley, Roerich lived the last period of his life. George Roerich, the elder son of Nicholas, became the director of the Institute [Urusvati]. 
  
  Large work was conducted in the field of linguistics and Eastern philology. Rarest written sources of centuries-old remoteness were collected and translated into European languages; half-forgotten dialects were studied.
