The notion of the authority that handheld technology and social media can have over an individual’s attention and efforts is explored in this piece. The soundscape is a combination of digital notification sounds spanning a number of popular social technology modes, melded with sounds signifying the human responses to these stimuli - both physically and psychologically, tied together with digitally manipulated sounds of natural origins. The listener should feel a degree of discomfort akin to that which the character represented in the piece is experiencing. Editing efforts were focused around building a tension, raising to its peak, followed by a resolution. Furthermore, close attention was paid to panning, layering, and volume levels in order to build a realistic sensory landscape using only sound. Hopefully this piece achieves a reconsideration of the implications of the pervasiveness of social technology.
