I used to have a bit of a problem with Theo Parrish (who produced this record); ten years ago I felt his mouth (in interviews) wrote checks that his abilities (at the time) couldn't cash. Pretty hard to say that these days. This record is for me an underground soul classic. It's house music, but has very little to do with moving bodies and a lot to do with moving minds. It's very dramatic, quite theatrical in a way (positive lyricism with looming minor key synths) and incredibly emotional. If I was to say one thing against it, it might be that it's a minute and a half too long.  But critiquing something as accomplished as this for a slight lapse in arrangement is pretty churlish. 

If you buy one piece of vinyl this year, this could well be it.
