1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

 Me and my record collection... both very mixed.
I started collecting music in my early twenties. I was blown away by house music. The parties, the different styles, the mixing! Till today I am fully passionate about it. After that, my curiosity and my ears wandered off more and more to all kinds of genres. From disco to afrobeat, highlife, various jazz styles, a few indie records, reggae, some UK styles like garage, jungle, dubstep and much more.
But currently I’m very into the London jazz scene - big time!

 2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format?
 
7" you little beasts! What I really like about this format is that you can enjoy the unusual tracks on it. I have the feeling that artists are more willing to release more daring tracks on a 7" and that's totally fine by me.  

3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?
 
classy mix - I selected tracks and arranged and rearranged them again and again intuitively. Whilst mixing, I noted that the selection was resembling a concert-like narrative. With an opener, a dancing part, a ballade and a goodbye closing track. And I enjoyed this analogy so much, that I stuck to it throughout the whole process. I am incredibly happy that I could experience this, thanks 45/7 vinyl club!

✈ SLEAZY IN BRAZIL ✈

Brazil's rich and rhythmic musical history roots its development all the way back to the first Native Americans, who paired rituals and worship with a blend of panpipes, rattlers and other early instruments. As early as the 17th century, the musical influence of the slaves from Africa added the contrast of their own traditional instrument, the drum. Added to that, Portuguese colonists, whose selection of instruments included the mandolin, ukulele and of course the guitar, sang ballads and put the love and passion into the already vibrant melting pot of musical magic.

And that's why Sleazy finds himself fascinated by this particular strand of good-time music. All the different influences that go into Brazil's past and current state makes its music a sound that sticks to it's roots but can gladly be inspired by new styles. This month's soundcast starts us off flying into Rio in the 1960s, excited and at awe by the city's vibrancy and passion for music. We move through guitar based ballads and odes to the country, 70s soul and funk whose influence by Western movements never shakes it's true roots in Brazilian rhythm, and of course infectious samba that always makes the world shake.
