Candy for Strangers, in its present form, was born out of necessity. It began from a realisation that the growing mass of Kiwi drum ‘n bass aficionados were being starved of the fruits of genuine performance artists. DJ tricks and sampled loops have their place but, without doubt, there is no substitute for the magic of experiencing the birth of music, live and direct in real-time. 

After a short hiatus from the gigging scene in 2009 to formulate their new sound, Candy for Strangers burst back onto the stage brandishing a bevy of bass-heavy brilliance to bewildered audiences. The addition of vocal genius The D Horse, with an unrivalled ability to seamlessly blend soulful melody with sinister and uncompromising rhyme, has helped to ensure that the Candy for Strangers experience never leaves a dance floor intact. 

In late 2009, Candy For Strangers relished in the competition of the New Zealand Battle of the Bands. After tasting success in the Wellington region Candy for Strangers headed to the New Zealand final at Auckland’s famed Kings Arms to feed the famished bass junkies from a national stage. Every member was humbled when Candy for Strangers earned 2nd place at the national final in the face of fierce competition from some truly impressive and diverse bands. 

2010 is set to be even bigger for Candy for Strangers. Keep your eyes peeled for some not-to-be-missed gigs and some brand new demos. Hold onto your faces!
