The man traced his finger across the map, studying the route he'd taken over the last week. The journey had been unexpected, full of surprises and various twists and turns, good and bad. The promise of good food, shelter and company had kept him going through this solitary pilgrimage and now he was so close he could smell the home cooking and hear the lively celebrations. He approached the huge door, took a deep breath and knocked loudly. No answer. He knocked again. Still no answer. Then his eye caught a sign to the right - "No More Room" was scrawled across it. After all this time and work, he was to be refused entry, unable to reap the benefits that he truly deserved...

To mark the end of the year, Jennifer Cardini is releasing the next annual compilation on her label Correspondant; lucky number seven. Compilation 07  features a stellar cast of artists with close ties to the imprint, or its experimental sister label Dischi Autunno, including Rina, Damon Jee, Zombies In Miaimi, Julian Stetter, Concret & Cantor, Javi Redondo and Terr, as well as a host of new talented friends.

After rocking the world, the universe and Asgard with his impressive edit of Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer”, released a couple of weeks ago on Belly Dance Services (and premiered here, by the way), Kuala Lumpur-based DJ and producer Ed Dix is back to our platform, this time showing his authorial skills with a banger release on the almighty and crucial British label Nein Records. “Mukadimah EP” brings three beautiful originals and three solid remixes provided by K-Effect (SXDNS062), Lusca and N.O.Y & Sandhog.

“Ominous”, the title we picked up to review, despite the dire and grim name, is not a so obscure tune as it might be implied. First of all, it is a groovy and upbeat track, especially because of the many percussive elements Master Dix creatively and harmonically put together. Yes, there are some murky synth layers and nebulous FXs, but nothing except joy is triggered by this seminal piece.

Alvaro Cabana, Andreas Rund, Attendances, Cabaret Nocturne, Connor, Curses, Duncan Gray, ID_UA, Local Suicide, Parissior, Roe Deers and Stockholm Syndrome, just to name a few, are among the artists who gave thumbs up to this release. 

After two appearances in less than one month, we are already looking forward to Ed’s next visit.

A-Tweed tells us stories about Black Africa, New Orleans or Marrakech alleys, Istanbul or Palermo Markets, and about the endless paths that lead from Buenos Aires to the Colombian Pacific.

His eclectic mixtapes are appreciated on Soundcloud and Mixcloud, as are his appearances in important underground international podcast channels or networks like Le Mellotron (Paris), Kiosk Radio (Brussels), Warm FM (Liegi), Radio Raheem (Milan), Cannibalradio (Athens), Basy Tropikalne (Warsaw), Radio Rea (Buenos Aires), Casa Caos (Brazil), Kiev Ethno Foundation (Ukraine), Cosmovision (Montreal),  Midnight Orient (Istanbul), Arabs Do It Better (Berlin), Radio Alhara (Palestine), Noods Radio (UK), etc.

In the last two years, A-Tweed shared the stage with various international artists such as Frente Cumbiero, Chancha Via Circuito, The Mauskovic Dance Band, Barrio Lindo, Chinese Man, Khidja, Floyd Lavine, Bufiman, Nickodemus, Nuri, and many more. He also played in festivals like Mondo Sounds (Sicily), White Summer (Spain), Ariano Folk Festival (Ariano Irpino), Disorder (Eboli), Reload (Biella), Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland), just to name a few, and several gigs in other countries including Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Greece, and Serbia.

He released his first EP in May 2020 on Rotterdam Label Afrobotic Musicology. A conceptual body of work using afro-electronics fused with Celtic cultures, the 3 tracks dedicated to Scotland, Bretagne, and Galicia, respectively. The tracks were premiered by Le Mellotron, Les Yeux Orange and Midnight Orient.
