An attempt at making both authentic-sounding SNES music and composing like Koji Kondo. I wanted to give one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite games justice, while trying not to sound too derivative. It's interesting to analyze Kondo's compositional style and to try imitate that.

All samples are custom, and the song was exported in 32000Hz for maximum accuracy.

(Yoshi's Island DS and New Island don't count because they're the most despicably disgraceful sequels ever that don't do the original game justice at all)

A little something to welcome everybody into the new year! Do stay a while, and listen to the full thing; you're bound to run into something unexpected.

Practicing my orchestration, but realism wasn't exactly what I was going for with this. Decided to find a middle ground between realistic and artificial-sounding, and I'm overall satisfied of the result!

Legend of Zelda (Reorchestrated) ~ Welcome to 2015 Arrangement

A pitch track for the Super Mario 64 Fan Remake that's been a bit of a craze lately. With this song, I wanted to not only contribute music but to propose a cohesive sound direction for the project.

My direction for this was to make a song that would sound like something Koji Kondo himself would make. Taking lots of inspiration from various songs he's made, I decided to emphasize the vast nature of the island first and foremost. Slight elements of bossa nova and reggae were added in as well, and overall in spite of some of the liberties I was forced to take, I'm quite satisfied with the song, and think it's reasonably close to Kondo's music.

Tiny-Huge Island (Huge) 2015

It seems like redoing this song is a bit of an obligation, ahaha!
I went for a much more conservative approach for this song, merely going for a more higher-quality take of the original; if not keep the original outright (as with Ocarina of Time 3D), I feel that's what Kondo would have done for a remake.
With that said, though, I did go for a bit of live instrumentation, keeping in line with realism trends shown with the Mario games.

Oh, come on, Kondo's a ragtime buff. How could I resist?

One thing that intrigued me as I decided to tackle this theme was the fact that Kondo originally used the Main Theme arrangement for this level, although the stage felt stylistically more Athletic, so to speak. I ended up adding lots of elements of the Athletic (Slider) arrangement, as a result, while keeping the structure of the original song!

Based off Koji Kondo's medley from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, with additional creative liberties.

Something I worked on in the hopes for getting it played by my school's concert band. Sadly complications came up in school life and I couldn't afford the time to finish the sheets for this, but for now I have this.

Badly mixed and poor articulation because I just slapped the midi data onto HyperCanvas.

About time I showed this off. I've been hoarding this for a while (as evident from the Preview Suite), but I decided to thank you guys with this. I don't really like dabbling in non-Kondo Mario music too often, but I've made an exception for this.

The original was a pretty driving song with lots of jazzy organs and brass going on, so I decided to take that basic concept and put a bit of a twist onto it. It shouldn't sound too redundant, in that sense, though it'd hopefully bring out vibes of the original.

(What's this? The drums are too weak? I wonder why...)

A remix of the Super Mario 64 File Select I made in a couple of days for Super Mario Flashback, a fangame I am lead musician for. Between rushing it and the overall electronic direction of the soundtrack, I decided that going for a house-influenced style could work, and the jazzy chord inversions I came up with on the piano complimented what I went for rather well.

August 13 marks the birthday of celebrated Nintendo composer, Koji Kondo. Since joining the company in 1983, he has written countless songs for many beloved games, becoming somewhat of a legend amongst video game music enthusiasts worldwide.

This remix was made to celebrate Koji Kondo's birthday, taking after certain (although not all, I must admit) elements of Kondo's musical style, and reincorporating them into a remix of the Super Mario Sunshine main theme. I hope you like this remix as much as I love Koji Kondo's music!

Chip meets chip meets guitar meets synth. I wanted to stick a little close to the style I've established with the previous level theme, while also extending the song and mixing various styles of instrumentation to give the feeling of time melting into itself.

Was suddenly urged to make this when I saw the arrangement of Dragon Valley for the newly announced Freedom Planet 2.

I've been a bit of a sucker for vibraphone jazz as of late, and I wanted to combine that with an experiment as to how 'major' - or failing that, simply happy - I ended up coming up with a lot of interesting ideas that I'm overall pleasantly surprised with. I hope you guys like it!

Perhaps one of the most sophisticated, beautiful pieces introduced into the Mario franchise, and we've only known it for a few days.

I noticed the piece sounded a bit tropical, between the salsa piano rhythms and similarities to Kondo's Sunshine Seaside - I decided to try and emphasize that feel with this semi-cover, semi-remix, semi-arrangement...

A reimagination, maybe. Like Odyssey itself is for our favorite red-capped plumber.

Kirby first level themes are really quite something. They're cute, upbeat, heroic, triumphant and optimistic all at the same time, and it simply never gets old. I hope I got something like them going with this tribute to both Ando and Ishikawa's musical styles.

Verdant Vista - Kirby Rip Attack

Here's a quick experiment made in an attempt to emulate Junichi Masuda's unique style of countermelodies! Toby Fox's Ruins proved to be a good test subject to base that upon... I'm looking forward to trying more arrangements in this very unique style of VGM in the future.

Rip Attack is something I've been thinking a lot about over the past few years. I can't describe how much it means to me that I've finally been able to continue the project, reflecting about what it means to write Kirby music, understanding that "feeling that anything goes"... omnivorous, how Kirby will inhale everything.

Risky Rocks - Rip Attack

Little thing I came up with after experimenting with chords on my little (understatement, lul) keyboard synth. It ended up rather overpowering compared to the official ones, but ended up... more unique, so to speak.
