This week we are joined by ABS8LUTE, a French music activist and passionate digger. As a groove lover, she enjoys driving her crowd into exciting techno storms with hypnotic atmospheres and percussive sounds. Outside of the DJ booth, she works for a better representation of women and people of colour in the industry. She does this by writing for music media like Mixmag France, by animating talks and debates on inclusion for the Paris Electronic Week, and by founding the Vénus Club, a collective of women DJs that recently took the French electronic scene by surprise.

Another live recording from the Reclaim Your City X Token night in early November and this one‘s a banger. Marcal is the budding Brazilian star act you may have heard of, commanding recognition post pandemic with his highly addictive loops. That’s certainly true in the case of Radio Slave, who played one of the former’s tracks on his show for Rinse FM and sought out the talent responsible. A serendipitous (online) meeting that blossomed into a deeper connection and had Marcal signed to Rekids, Enemy Records and Token. And here they are a little down the line and all the luckier for it. Marcal’s focus is on intelligent and minimal builds, those that work by way of rhythmic complexity and highly developed textures, brainy techno with a pinch of mischief. Bassiani Podcast 192 is a prime example of that formula in action, a two hour dose of the finest cuts and hardest basslines recorded live on the Bassiani floor.

Andrew Shobeiri AKA @renewise flaunts an artistic flair rare for his years.

Possessing an uncanny ability to create a sound that fuses hip-shak-ing grooves with a raw but modern touch, Wise breeds a deep sense of knowledge and maturity beyond what you’d expect for an artist of his age. His ear for infectious rhythm derives from a love of classic 90’s era techno, always being drawn to the relentless energy felt in the faster tempos. These influences can be heard throughout his productions and selections as a DJ, winning him a growing fanbase of peers and music lovers alike.

2018 saw the UK-born DJ/producer leaving a strong impression. A dig- ital EP on Mark Broom’s Beardman imprint and his first official 12’ inch release on the highly respected Mote-Evolver, run by techno pioneer Luke Slater, gained huge reactions from the likes of Rødhad, Freddy K, Blawan and DVS1. The high level of support has continued into 2019, with white label tracks featuring in sets from Kr!z & Dustin Zahn, among others.

On the road Wise has made regular appearances at Jaded, London’s Sunday after-hours haven while his Berghain sets have undoubtedly grabbed the attention of the committed Berlin reveler. The remainder of 2019 keeps this young talent busy, with bookings spanning the UK, Europe and, South Africa with more releases set to drop across the next coming months.
